I hate C++

I seen a post on someone that hates Java.  Well, I'm taking my first C++ class and its so confusing, I'm considering taking advanced python instead, or maybe a different language all together since I'm supposed to take an advanced C++ class also.  I absolutely love python, I could just sit down and come up with something I could code and make it happen with C++ i feel like I'm fixing more errors then actually writing out code unlike python haha anyways rant... over...

C++ is love C++ is life. I use that shit for everything.

haha i understand the benefits of it but, I just hate the syntax, maybe its my instructor idk

Syntax will take a bit to get used to especially if you're coming from something like python but It is definitely worth sticking it out. Once you get going placing semi colons will become second nature for you ;)

C++ is brilliant. It's just very hard to start to do good with it, as far as I understand.

You can create great things with higher-level languages like Python, but C* is great because of the great performance you can achieve.

Yeah, very hard for me so far but, maybe after a while I'll start to get it my classmates are even like wtf am i doing here hahaha

I'm trying to get used to visual studio and learn a C++ at the same time I've never even opened visual studio until i took this class its even more complicated then the language haha

Visual studio is a big pain in the ass. But when you get used to it it's kinda good.

That may be your instructor as well. A friend and I mentor a FIRST robotics team in programming. We we're able to teach about 15 people who have never programmed before (limited PIC basic experience at most) C++ in a roughly a month and a half. This was only on Tuesdays/Thursdays mostly over skype with the odd physical session. Most of them did just fine.

VS has a steep learning curve but once you get passed that it will be your greatest ally in software development.

Yeah, C++ is hard AF. It has it's place in software development, a really strong place. It's a nice language to try and master, but as a first language it sucks balls.

That really depends on who you ask, I enjoyed learning C++ as a first language ;)

Do yourself a favor, if you're learning C++ become familiar with the entire process of object file -> linker -> compiler using gcc or clang (works for windows now too) before you start using Visual Studio to hold your hand, or you'll just become confused and frustrated from not understanding VS's error output when you run into problems working with external libraries.

 

If you hate VS just grab clang and work with makefiles or batch/terminal for building and Atom with the clang plugin, the workflow is surprisingly smooth. If you want a posix like work environment on windows grab babun and TDM for now, supposedly Windows 10 will be getting a big update this summer to support a posix environment within windows.

It doesn't really matter that much what language you learn first.  Just be sure to learn a few over time so you can appreciate the differences and make better forum posts than "[The only language you know] is the best!".

I hate python, i think it is because i'm used to c#,php where if's use { } and lines end in ; using white space annoys me get it wrong and it breaks with brackets doesn't really matter what my white space is like it will still work. It will be horrible to read but still works.

Actually visual studio is free for students :P

I also use Code::Blocks but I know there are many other options for a C/C++ dev kit: Eclipse, CLion, C9....

C++ runs computers. Python does not

Over the years I have programmed in a lot of different things but C++ was my first real programming language. I don't really like or dislike languages but I do find some languages more productive to work with due to tools or their ability to avoid certain types of bugs. C++ is not a faster language to work with, too many holes to fall into and places to blow your leg off or just plain odd little things you need to know. Its obviously really important in the world of programming languages, every programmer ought to know C++ but at the same time you only really want to use it for what its good at, almost no one writes for the web in C++ for good reasons.
