I expect that there will be efficiency improvements, of course, but that they will be used to just give us more power at the same TDP as before

I cant see the 1080 using the same power as the 980ti after the jump to 16nm. It just seems stupid. The new amd card (polaris 10) is about 100 watts.

well AMD is focusing on trying to make some very efficient, low power-draw cards.  At least that's my understanding.

Yes, the die sizes are a lot smaller than NVidia's as well. So they'll make more per chip.

So far I am impressed with the live feed.

1080 is faster than a Titan Z or 2 980Ti SLI :o

My new folding is going to be a dream.... even if I buy a 1080 or 1070...

Nvidia is streaming right now. 

EDIT: They seem to be talking about VR. right now they talking about distorting the scene to remove distortion from the lens.

EDIT: The 1080 has 2X the performance of a titan X and 3X the energy efficiency!!? O_o wow that is crazy

EDIT: gtx 1080 8GB GDDR5X confirmed! 9 teraflops! $599 noice specs. 1070 is faster than titan X @ $379!! 8GB GDDR5 6.5 Teraflop

EDIT: The 1080 is not 2x the performance of titan X http://www.geforce.com/hardware/10series/geforce-gtx-1080 according to the official nvidia website. It seems to have slightly more performance (probably about 25%, maybe even 40-50%), but in VR, with optimization it can acheive 2x performance.

EDIT: 1607 MHz Core clock (and 180W tdp :o) O_O and Displayport 1.4 ready. 2560 cuda cores. Not bad!

Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

I am so stoked about those prices !! I have no worries about build that Folding machine of mine now but I doubt I will get my hands on 8 of those gpus anytime soon though.
