Upgrade 6350 to 8350?

I have an FX-6350 overclocked to 4.2 GHZ. Worth the extra money to go to an 8350? Looking for gaming performance.

Honestly an 8350 is better but, wait for zen instead of upgrading to higher end old amd stuff

You won't gain much in single core IPC, which most games need. So I don't think it's worth it.

The 8350 performs better when you use all 8 threads but when using 6 threads or less it's the same

The FX 6000 series seem to be good value CPUs. I personally wouldn't upgrade to an 8350 or anything else FX at this current time, as AMD is hopefully going to be putting out some new CPUs sometime this year. I have a 6300 overclocked to 4.3GHz and I'm not considering an upgrade at this current date, however if you are seriously considering an upgrade, play it safe and wait for the new ones to come and see if they're worth upgrading to you personally.

No. An upgrade would be a more modern platform, whether its amd zen or anything intel since their 2nd gen i series.

I personally wouldn't do it.  The 990FX platform is a dead platform, no need investing more money into it.

If you want better gaming performance, wait for Zen or go Intel. Either way, it's going to be a platform swap.

I wouldn't, especially with a 970 motherboard. I'd first upgrade your GPU to a 280X or 390 before considering upgrading your CPU/Motherboard.

 

For the most part, you are going to be looking at a 4-core (4-thread or maybe 8-thread) CPU from AMD or Intel in about 6 months. At that point, you can also upgrade your motherboard.

rocking a 4.7+ OC on that board. 

 

Not really a limitation for moderate OC's.
