770 still a good card?

Clanscorpia

So with tonight being the great night (The one I  buy PC parts), I've figured out my exact config for my build. A 6500, GA-H170-D3HP, 8GB 2133, GQ 650, and an S340. Some of you may have noticed that it doesn't have a GPU. I was planning on waiting for Pascal but because of what I'm earning this year, and the leftover I have from the build, I was planning on buying a used GPU and then give it to my brother when I buy a better GPU. So I started looking at eBay. I started with a 770 as I know its roughly the performance of a 280 and 960/380. $180 CAD. I was suprised, so I looked up 280. $280 CAD. 380 $250 and 960 $280. So should I buy the 770? It seems like a good deal and it's right in the price range for a GPU for me.

Since you are upgrading to Pascal when it comes out, I see no problem in getting it. It is still a powerful GPU. If you weren't upgrading to Pascal, it would be a different story.

Yep - for that price I guess the 770 is solid. It's more powerful than a 960/280 by a bit

How much VRAM does the GTX 770 you are looking at have? The standard is 2 or 3GB I believe, but I believe there was also a 4GB version made. Considering your plan of giving your brother the 770 after you upgrade I would try to find a 4GB version of the 770 just for the plain fact that it will extend the useful life of the GPU substantially.

How long do you propose to wait for Pascal? Im building a PC when pascal comes out, but I'm getting the 1080 hopefully at 600$ in June, almost right when it comes out. I personally would either wait to build the computer, or run on Intel integrated graphics for the time being instead of spending the extra money. The 770 is a great card for that price if you do need a GPU in the mean time.

Performance wise it's good for 1080p. My 760 is still good enough :)

For $180Cad it's a great value. U won't get 1060 for that price (should be slightly better than 770).

Depending on the Pascal prices (if they match 900series) the price of 700 series should go down.

On ebay they are around the same here now £130-140, but the better 7970s Msi lightning for example that goes for around £150, They have actually gone up in price since i sold my two, i got £120 and £140 for mine....but they are a better card than the 770, and can run a lot of games on very high to ultra at good fps...

Personally i would wait for AMD offerings, Pascal is going to be meh.....20% across each tier performance increase, for a 30% price increase.

My brother needs a card soon though, an 7970s are $270 CAD here. And the 770s are to expensive it seems because of sniping. I think I'll get a 760 for $100 which seems to be a great deal and I can give it to my brother soon after. Ill try Intel HD 530 first though, maybe I wont need a GPU for my current games

The 770 is superior hardware.

The 960 enjoys better driver support though.
