I7-5820k or AMD FX-8350 for a video editing PC

I'm looking to build a PC for video editing and also be able to stream my gameplay from my console to twitch. I'm not much of a PC guy so I don't know to much about CPU's and well I was leaning towards an i7-5820k because I feel like that's the better brand but now I'm thinking about the AMD FX-8350 only because it has 8 cores which I hear more cores are better for video editing. I can't really afford to buy a more expensive CPU than the i7-5820k, so I'm stuck between those two. So if anyone can help me determine which one is better for my PC needs or if anyone has another suggestion please let me know and thanks for the help.

the 5820k have better single threaded and multi threaded performance, so go with that

The i7-5820K by a long long shot.

Look at their comparison in Cinebench, a benchmark that measures CPU rendering speed.

http://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cpu-intel_core_i7_5820k-440-vs-amd_fx_8350-7

The 5820K is more than 50% faster.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

the 5820k is a decent chunk faster, its just also a decent chunk more expensive.

cant expect a €120 cpu to outperform a €400 cpu can we?

There is a huge price gap between those two processors... And a performance one.

If you can afford it, get the i7 5820k, it's a great chip.

OP said he can afford a 5820K. And for professional tasks it's unreasonable to cut corners.

Price gap may be big in your country, but in the US it's like a $300 CPU vs. $140 CPU. Which actually gives the 5820K almost as good price to performance as the 8350 because it's near 2x as fast for video editing and 3x or more else where.

Current PC: Origin Millennium- i7 5820K @4.0GHz | GTX 980Ti SLI | X99 Deluxe

And in fact since the 8350 is just a faster clocked 8300 and every AM3+ mobo supports overclocking (that i'm aware) the 8300 is the smarter buy if you need multithreaded performance for $120.

It'd be better to compare the 5820K to the 6700K but the 6-core wins out in rendering.

I'm going to nitpick just a bit.

2 Hyperthreaded intel cores are better than 8 AMD cores. The FX-8000s win out agains pentiums and celerons :P

for single thread yes

for multi thread, the 8350 can easily hold up to, or even surpass an i5, which has 4 cores

Thanks for the input I'll definitely get the i7... Just wanted to make sure there was a big difference between them before paying more money

Here's two,http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2015-intel-core-i3-6100-review

Admittedly for video editing the i3 is a bit behind an fx. That said,he is looking at a 5820k and not an i3.

For things that can actually use all of the cores the fx wins most of the time, anything needing single core performance the i3 wins.

So i admit my post was a bit out of line,it was meant more as a joke than me actually recommending he get an i3.

An i3 isn't even a little worse in video editing. It is completely destroyed.
