either build and sell them or have them send me parts and i build it and charge like a $10 fee for me building it?

You can probably get some money by having people give you a budget and their uses for it, order the parts and build the PC for them and just give it to them. Charge a reasonable labor fee.

Just clear cookies for $299 and call yourself Best Buy. There isn't really a way to make money on just building them. I would just scam old people like every computer store ever

Getting people to trust you (since you don't seem to run a business doing this) would probably be pretty challenging. But you could get the friend or whatever to buy PC stuff and then have you build it. If you do a good job, he might recommend you to his friend who wants a PC but doesn't want to build it himself, and then he gives it to you and pays you to put it together, and the cycle repeats until you're fairly well-known and trusted so people will come to you and want you to build their PCs

there already are thousands of companies and people who get discounts on parts though bulk purchases or contracts and they can always build PCs cheaper than you while actually making a profit

 

look at some other kind of business instead of this, something that isnt already saturated with builders who are already better/cheaper than you

You could try and offer your "services" for free or make people pay whatever they want. I think it´s already worth it from the gaining experience standpoint alone. If you do your job right people may pay more than you expect. Just don´t expect too much.

Not doing it for anything but free on your spare time is best option. You will save money more than starting small business or even just doing it under tax rate (I don't know better term for it). This seems to be topic that pops up weekly now. I'm not sure why everyone thinks it such good job opportunity. I mean every enthusiast knows that PC hardware is loosing footing to easy solutions, big retail companies and laptops. And all who are more aware will build it themselves. Those who don't do either of what I just mentioned, you will have to fight with other local small business. Most will already have customer base with other small business offices and they have repair/support as side.

 

What I would suggest you doing. Go for local equivalent of FreeGeek (the place LTT volunteered for). You don't get paid but you get to play around with PC hardware. Or apply for part-time job in some local PC building shop. I know two big ones and 3 smaller ones in this city. You can even work for free if you just want experience and build stuff. Something like that will help you in future anyway.
