Intel Xeon E3-1230V2 any good?

MikeTz

So I have a question, will the Xeon stated above be good for gaming and light editing?

(From what I have heard it is the 3770 chip but without iGPU and for a lot less which means it should

perform evenly)

I'm asking just out of curiosity.

it's meant for workstation . but i guess light gaming can do.(never seen any game supporting xeon). and not sure about editing. i7 would be the way to go for gaming and video editing!

It's actually not bad. Same performance as an i7 3770 for less $$$

All who is saying yes have not used a Xeon CPU on a consumer board yet, the support is horrible and you can experience some weird problems, why? BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT MEANT TO BE USED THAT WAY!

Hadn't thought of that.

And I will be trying a Xeon on a Z77 board soon. It's only a matter of time.

But from what I have checked many mobos will work with the Xeon if you install a BIOS update(Checked MSI's mobos)

I'm currently running that specific CPU for a few months now and I haven't had any problems with it. I do some medium gaming sometimes and it runs fine...

my mobo: MSI Z77A-GD65

It's a regular i7, but without iGPU. don't listen to others. You can check it on database:

http://ark.intel.com/compare/65732,65719,75054,75122

Completely fine for everything if you stick it in correct socket (1155 for v2, 1150 for v3).

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

And can you please explain to us, oh mighty Ssoele, why did Intel even bother to release a socket that is compatible with those i7/xeon processors, but for some reason you say that they are not meant to be used in those sockets?

There was no mention of sockets anywhere in those posts, the main problem with XEONS on consumer board is the chipset.

They can cause compatibly issues which will lead to stability issues.

What did you smoke? if something is SUPPORTED means it is SUPPORTED, what instability do you have in mind? What incompability? some features are board-dependant, yes, but the basic CPU capabilites are compatible with pretty much all lga 1150/1155 mobos.

If you don't know anything about Xeon e3-1230, do not comment.

I wasn't speaking about a specific config.

Sure if the board manufacturer lists it in the HCL then its fine but a lot of time its not in there because of the issues I listed above.

You are right on that but why would somone buy a mobo that doesn't support the CPU

(Only people that don't know much about PC's would, but still would that kind of person buy a Xeon??)

Sorry, but this is not the first time somebody says Xeons are not meant for desktops, bla bla, incompatible, bla bla, you can't play games using xeon, they are bad for gaming, they are bad for everything, because they are xeon, bla bla. All that crap is false.

I'm sorry that i am not too polite, i really try to be.
