Noctua d14 or d15?

Abel225

Okay so it is like this. I want to get an awesome aircooler. I wasthinking either the d14 or d15. The case is the phanteks eclipse p400s. It supports up to 160mm cpu coolers. The d14 is 160 while the d15 is 165. So I guess it is pretty self explanatory to get the d14 right? is there any cooling difference? Is it worth it to look for another case? I have not bought it yet!

i will give you the answer that linus seems to give to everything:

it depends

what sort of cpu dp you have?

are you going to overclock it?

are other components in your system running a bit toasty?

but as far as i know there is a nominal difference in between the two, but the d15 seems the better option for you.

3570k and I will overclock it. Nothing else is really toasty I guess. Do you think it would fit in the eclips p400s?

oh wait dang. i didnt see the cooler clearance, but no it wont. the d14 is still a really great cooler though. anything by noctua is typically a good buy.

I have this cooler and it's so BIG. It will fill up the entire top of your case and hang over your ram slots. also be very carefull with the motherboard you pick, it will hang over the first pcie slot of your mobo. so make sure the second slot of your motherboard is 16x. other than that it's the quietest thing in my pc.

CPU: Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.6Ghz CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 GPU: GTX 1070 TI RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tactical 16GB (4x4) Mobo: ASUS Z97-PRO(Wi-Fi ac) PSU: Corsair RM Series RM750 Case: Fractal Design Define R4 no window

Wow! Nice build! it looks really good with the water cooling. The define s is too expensive for me... I might even have to ditch the phantoms case and get something dirt cheap...

The NH-D15 is better and you should get it if doable. The heatsink itself is actually only 160mm tall. It's 165mm with the fans in the default position and not pushed down. If there are no ram sticks below the fan, that is doable but only practical if you're using one 8gb stick in the farthest slot or another set of slots like those on some lga 2011 boards.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

I see. It's an 1155 build so it won't fit because of the ram.
