GTX 770 reaches 95 degrees with FurMark

I'm quite concerned as my GTX 770 Palit Jetstream is reaching 95 degrees celcius in FurMark and sounding like a jet engine. Is this normal? I'm thinking thermal compound issue at this point as it seems way too high for a 3 fan open cooler in a full tower. I should also add that these temps were recorded in late February in England ( so not exactly a warm environment ). It was also a gift so RMA is not really a great option. It only comes up as I recently made a dirt cheap custom water cooling loop and I am considering adding the GPU to the loop if the 95 degree incited jet engine sounds are normal. Otherwise I will just order some non conductive thermal compound and replace the goop. Does anyone else have a similar problem? Perhaps with a different cooler?

Don't use Furmark. Period.

May I ask why? ( I just use it as a stress tester, not interested in it's benchmark )

Furmark places a very unreasonable load on the gpu, to get worse case temps, but yes those temps do see quite high. Is it a blower style cooler?

What are the temps in game? If in game temps are fine, then I would not worry.

Unigene Heaven is better as Furmark stresses the voltage of the GPU and does burn-ins. One of the reasons why it overheats so much

Not sure about in-game temps but it still sounds like a plane taking off in GTA5 so i figured it would be similar temperatures

Was it always like this, or was it a sudden change?

Thermal paste could only be the problem if it has been like this for a long time, or slowly got worse over time.

Excessive dust build up in the heatsink could also be your issue, as the fans would have to work harder to get air through the fins if they were clogged up.

Even in Unigene it reaches around the 85 celcius mark

That is a more reasonable temperature, but is the fan still very loud when running heaven?

It's been like this since i got it. I've already cleared the fins of dust after installing the loop but no difference in thermals.

Furmark pushes GPUs to the point where the drivers make the card purposefully throttle, and it puts an unrealistic load on the GPU. You should be using something like real games, or another stress tester like Unigine Heaven or Valley.

Could be an ass-tastic TIM application. @Darkman has had quite a few 970's with shitty applications (or just stuff all over the cooler) with his several EVGA 970s.

There's no way for 3rd party cooling GTX 770 to reach temp above 78C. But are you sure you are using factory overclock?

No overclock at all, I guess I will be replacing good old TIM then.

If you have thoroughly cleaned the heatsink I would try fresh thermal paste next.  When I put fresh paste on my old 970, I saw a large reduction in fan speed required to keep the card at the temp it was set to hold at.

Can you download CPUID HWMonitor and then do stress test with Unigine or play GTA 5 for at least 30 minutes, and then post a screenshot of CPUID HWMonitor into here?

I am away from my rig for about a week i'm just thinking of ordering parts so i can get right to fixing it when i get home. What things should I look out for?

Its a very good stress test. It doesnt represent real world gaming but it gives you a worst case scenario.

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

what? no.... total bullshit

furmark uses gpgpu compute and utilizes all units on the die

RMA that thing, 770 shouldn't reach 95*C with triple fan design

if you can't RMA, replace the TIM and hope for the best
