So seen these akg headphones on massdrop for a 130 which is close to the price of the very popular m50x. I'm in the market for a new pair of quality headphones is there any noticeable difference in the quality of these headphones, would any one anyone absolutely pick one pair over the other?

m50x are flatter i think, since the tiesto headphones are specifically made for DJing with high SPL and lots of bass

There is a switch on the side to decrease bass.

Don't buy the M50x's. I own them and some DT770's and the Beyerdynamics are just better, comfortwise and sound is not just pure monitoring which is probably not what you will be doing.

I also just ordered the 7XX's on massdrop :P

This guy "Z Reviews" reviews the M50x's and say basically how i feel about them after owning a pair.

Not sure if i'm allowed to link his video, i'll check then link it.

Pretty sure it's fine:

depend on the sound you like
M50x is rather flat so you can use it with almost any genre
but for k267 is not for any genre because of it's bass

for dt770 it's quite good but they have rather high impedance depends on your choice 80 or 250 ohm, so can be rather hard to drive, but i think there's a 32 ohm version

First of the M50x is not that flat at all

second Ohm has nothing to do with how hard headphones are to drive.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

m50x while not exactly flat is rather flat sounding
and  i know that Ohm is not exactly the cause (impedance and sensitivity cause it), they kinda cause it you know, on the same sensitivity level a higher impedance headphone are harder to drive than a lower one, and in this case the dt770 have a rather high impedance rating 80 or 250 and their sensitivity are 96 so they are rather hard to drive, while not exactly can't be driven straight without using amp

It does, it's just not the sole determining factor.

Ohm has so little to do with it since it's how efficient they are that determines if they are hard to drive or not And that is why you should just ignore it, and read about the headphones instead to see what other people are saying and read about how efficient they are.

All motherboards has a amp on them or else it could not power anything at all, and most motherboard today can power the DT770/880/990 250 Ohm versions, you have to cheap out on your motherboard if it cant.

while they can, they wouldn't be able to drive dt770 250 ohm properly
properly driven headphone can sound very difference to the same headphone that just being driven enough to produce sound

Most motherboard can drive them properly they might not be able to max them out, but they can drive them properly. And who are using headphones on max lvl?

i'm not saying they can't, just they won't sound as good when they are properly driven with an amp
properly driven headphone on the same volume level output will have a difference in sound quality

Nope they will sound the same even if they cant reach the same max volume. You are talking about under powering, I am talking about being able to power, but not to max volume and you will have to put the volume higher up, but they will sound the same.
