LGA 775 Upgrade suggestions - 430 to 6600

Maslofski

I just signed up for netflix this month, so now i want to upgrade my mother's pc so she can enjoy it on her pc too, but its not quite there. she only uses it for browser games and soon netflix.

we live in spain, on the southernmost end.

celeron 430  (old and very beaten up)

AsRock G41C GS (pretty much new)

4GB 1333

4 hdds (can only use 1 currently elsewise it wont boot)

1600x900 screen

win 7 32bit

i thought about buying a Q6600 from ebay for 26€, but first i wanted to see what you guys had to say. would be cool if someone with Q6600 could tell me how netflix playback goes.

dunno on what Netflix codec works but I doubt it has GPGPU acceleration capability, so it's most likely rendered in SW .. thus CPU

I have no idea with integraded GFX, but to make a guess on those specs..

DX10 is old.... very old... DX9 is fall back standards on programming I do. DX 12 is win10 cutting edge. DX11 is latest tech with new AAA games.

So best guess is still doubt netflix / amazon prime flash video players will cause any issue (my mac dev laptop from 3 years ago however has serious issue with neflix, but thats their website programming and what they server to mac).

DX10 should be fine. Why it wouldnt be fine is ? for me. Amazon / Shitflix (netflix) should be fine it's browser based flash stuff with a single video stream

I have netflix running on an old laptop with 256mb of ram, OS: ubuntu from many years ago (no gfx)
I have netflix running on mothers pc 3Ghz single core P4 - 2GB of ram (works fine)

Videos on netflix are streamed in via flash (tech which is much better than HTML5).

Works on shit mobile phone, tablets of CPUs less than 1Ghz and GFX integrated which would make a ninendo 64 look impressive. ;)

If your mothers PC plays netflix, probably no need to upgrade, the only challenging task is the website itself, their javascript programming on the video browsing carousel is not too CPU friendly.
