$1200 Gaming build

xiscAJESUS

So I built a quick $1200 build that i'm looking to buy soon enough, I want to hear you guys opinion, if I should change something etc, and i'm going to go SLI in the future, perhaps later this year. Also i'd like to know if I should sell my current PC with the Seidon CPU cooler and buy a H110i GT for my new build instead of taking the Seidon for it and putting in the stock cooler when selling the old PC. I'm also looking to watercool the whole build in the future, maybe even as late as 2017 if I don't earn enough money after the second GPU purchase to afford watercooling, and i've heard that the FD Define series are the absolute best for that purpose and it looks so good imo!

Also i'm currently playing at 1920x1080 144Hz and I have two monitors, the 1080p one being a AOC G2460PQU and the side monitor which I use for multitasking mostly is an old 1680x1050 60Hz LG M228WA. Perhaps I can sell the old monitor to get some extra money to play with and purchase some better parts but idk, because I really love having 2 monitors and I would greatly miss it if I decided to do so.

Thanks for reading and supply me with some nice replies! Have a good day/night!

plz no, here

also the 390 is faster than the 970, and has potentially better DX12 support in addition to 125% more VRAM, and saving you money on a free-sync display

just upgrade the case here to whatever with your left over cash, maybe upgrade the SSD to a 480gb as well

Got you a locked CPU bcause the 980 ti will give a bigger preformance increase than a unlocked CPU

Seems like a solid build other than the 970 over a 390. 390 has double the memory and performs better in most games at 1080p, and better in any higher resolution. If your really set on Nvidia, then I suppose the 970 is fine, but it isnt the best choice.

Have you looking into going with a skylake build with something like an i5-6500? Would probably come to around the same (maybe +-$50-75) price but would have slightly better performance and your on the new socket for better upgrade options.

Gaming - Ryzen 5800X3D | 64GB 3200mhz  MSI 6900 XT Mini-ITX SFF Build

Home Server (Unraid OS) - Ryzen 2700x | 48GB 3200mhz |  EVGA 1060 6GB | 6TB SSD Cache [3x2TB] 66TB HDD [11x6TB]

So now bang for the buck builds are called waste of money??

oh ok...

I understand you trying to save OP Money but clearly would you rather have a 390 or a 980 ti, its a easy question

a 980ti isn't really too great for performance per dollar, especially with new GPUs only a few months out

Hey XiscJESUS, I think rather than getting a build with a 970, definatly go for Aytex's build, I think that its more future proof and has what you'll need!

Then whats the point of getting a 390 when new gpus come out only a month later

we all know AMD GPU's get lower in price when new GPU's come out

thus lowering the profit exchange if OP ever does want to sell it to get a better gpu

On LGA1150/1151, a 2x8GB memory kit is better. It leaves two slots free for upgrading and puts marginally less strain on the memory controller.

While the Seidon cpu cooler is not that great, you may as well keep it as it helps with the budget.

I would suggest going with Skylake. This build sticks with the GTX 970 mostly to keep the black & white color scheme and to stay in budget with an excellent psu.

Because a 390 is only $300

with the 300 saved there compared to the 980ti he could upgrade his secondary display with a 1440p IPS display and have a much better experience daily, especially over using an older 1050p display for a secondary display
$318 1440p IPS 27"  75Hz actually

https://pcpartpicker.com/part/acer-monitor-umhx2aac01

Could even afford a monitor arm with it and run it in portrait mode, which 1440p is great for as it has enough horizontal pixels in that mode to properly display web pages

Granted that's a bit over the price of a 980ti, but that's going to be way better than having a faster GPU that won't even be pushed hard for a 1080p 144hz display

Thanks all for the replies so far, i'm just being stupid and not calculating the cost from SEK to dollars correctly...

I'll have around 11950kr to play with ($1447,87), can you put something together based of my current build that is ''future-proof''?

''Long'' time experience in this forum has already told me that people hate that term. Black and white, ATX, skylake platform and a unlocked processor, I want to do some overclocking. And I also want to stay on nVidia for Shadowplay and the current The Division offer.

Overclocking isn't really going to be worth it, the i7 6700 already turbos to 4ghz, spending $100+ more to OC a 6700K to around 4.5ghz just isn't going to be worth it.

No not really. I have a 980ti with 144hz 1080p and with 8x msaa in gpu demanding games i need the 980ti to hit 120 fps. Crysis 3 i get like 90-130 maxed out. Same with titanfall and minecraft. Its expensive but not a waste IMO

Could just turn down your settings slightly, I doubt you'd notice too much of a difference. Also should upgrade to 1440p 144hz when you get a chance, maybe save $200 going with free-sync and hoping nvidia cares about freedom sometime.

It's more that the 5820K usually costs as much as the 6700K, and gives you way more CPU performance, and makes more sense to OC as it's turbo is only to 3.6ghz, it also gives you a better platform, but you have to spend a bit more on your motherboard.

i like having three monitors... three VG248QE, 1440p tripple is expensive :(

yeah i could turn them down a tad and good point about free sync

Depends if you want more CPU performance and a higher end platform. if you're just gaming the i7 6700 is going to be fine, not worth it to go for the K part there so much.
