Is it possible to get a good gaming for a budget of $500? I am not planning onto to play the heaviest titles. I am also going to use it for movies and videos.

well, i always say that for the price of a console, you can get a PC thats similar performance to a console.

the difference on pc is that you have the option to pay more to get more.

Can you help build me a gaming pc with the maxed out specs for the budget of $500?

i like that one, looks like a nice all-rounder, and when theres extra budget you can drop in a better card without cringing.

I managed to squeeze a 380x in here without compromising on other parts. You should be golden when it comes to 1080p gaming. As for why I didn't include an SSD when the budget would allow for me to work one in- pricing for solid-state storage is dropping at an unprecedented rate, which means that a few months down the line, you can grab yourself a faster SSD for a lot less money. Also, they're always the first thing to go on sale, so keep your eyes open.

I 2nd his support.

There is a drawback- this build relies on $50 worth of rebates to meet the price point. Another drawback is that the XFX XT power supplies are outsourced to the same factory as the infamous 'Hydrance by Seasonic' power supplies. You guys (@don_svetlio in particular) might remember a discussion I started about the Hydrance line of power supplies earlier this month, where we discovered the whole thing was essentially made of fevicol and featured unbranded Taiwanese caps.

Then again, some twisted part of me wants to use someone as a guinea pig In short; I'm having second thoughts about the power supply.

That CPU/GPU balance could use tweaking. Furthermore, Fractal design has some great value cases in the 'Core' series, which frees up a further $20 to put towards a better GPU. All in all, I'd suggest an i3 6100 (a large step up over the Haswell i3s and a CPU that is on par with an i5 2500k at stock) and sticking in an R9 380 instead.

It breaks the badass balance, but when there's $50 in rebates, I suppose OP can throw $20 more at his build if he succeeds. I second the S12ii series.

S12II or XFX TS - same stuff :)

Yes, but this is the XFX XT line of power supplies. The problem is that it shares a platform with the Hydrance power supply we talked about. In fact, they're both outsourced to the same factory and are probably the same SKU.

Yes. I meant the XFX TS are usually 5$ cheaper than S12II :D

Ah, I'll see if I can find one of those. I wonder if they have the same platform as the ECO series we have here in Asia.

Same SKU as the S12II. XFX TS Bronze = S12II
XFX TS Gold = S12G

Then what do we attribute the price difference to? Seasonic brand name charges?

SeaSonic name does carry a premium. They've spent the last 40 years as top dog.

Must we say this over and over again- don't buy AMD's CPUs or APUs until their new Zen processors launch later this year- the architecture is hopelessly outdated and things will get a lot better with AM4.
