I was educated under the British system. I believe my English is not inferior by any stretch of the imagination but thank you for ur snide remark abt questioning my command of the English language.

To OP:

Wait for 9xxx series to see what it does to the prices, if those cards don't take your fancy just go ahead and get a 780 (unless you have other upgrades that need attention)

Apparently I took a dump on myself :'(

Anyway, let's not digress like others did :)

I don t think its worth it to buy a 780, the price difference is too much.

The resolution is very important @ Full HD the 780 is ~ 15% faster and remember not everything must be on ultra details,

if you make 2 screenshots, one in ultra and one  high settings you will have problems to see any difference (remember on a screenshot)

and if you are running ingame you will see nearly no difference at all.

Watch this carefully http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Screenshot-Vergleich-Thema-208242/Specials/Warum-muessen-es-immer-Ultra-Details-sein-1075244/

Here in Germany we are telling people to get a 670.(smart deal)

ASUS GTX 670= ~212€

Some people are just not satisfied if they cant turn everything on ultra although there is no difference if you lower the gamesettings  a little bit.

You can test it for yourself, make 2 screenshots and compare it, the only difference will be in huge FPS differences, think about it.

Unless you love the EVGA coolers than I'd just wait for the 9xxx stuff like everyone else has said...   ( I've actually had to fight myself to wait, and not get a 770 instead of the new cards just because the EVGA cooler on it looks so good.. )

I don't know why everyone thinks this 780 is overkill at 1080. If anyone plans on playing modern games at decent framerates, you have to possess the graphics horsepower. Unless you have a 780, don't make any recommendations for/against it.

If everyone continues to think like this, then you buy a 780, you WILL be disappointed. It's not the mother of all GPUs. It doesn't get 300 fps on games at 1080, except Call of Duty. If COD is all you play, then YES, it is overkill at 1080.

But...   ...with any other recent games, 75-90fps maxed out.

780 is a very good card BUT it is expensive compared to 770/7970.

Now think about that:

Prices in Germany

HD 7970 GHz= ~300€

MSI GTX 770 TF= ~330€

GTX 780 = ~600€

Nearly double Price and 15% faster, now lets see how much 15% is.

30 FPS with 770 --- 34,5 FPS with 780

60 FPS with 770 --- 69 FPS with 780 etc

I mean ok the 780 is better/faster but if you consider the prices too...

WIth a 770/7970 GHz you will play all the games with same settings like the 780 will do, a lil bit slower but not really worth talking about and remember you dont have to play everything on ultra,

like i said before make sceens in different settings and compare them and watch all the links i posted.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfMYb1Jk0FU

The resolution and 60-144 Hz Monitor is important too.

There are many things to take note of.

No point in getting anything other than a 7970 right now for a high end card.

I disagree, you don't know the man's full intentions, what if he's planning on faming in 3d vision or something? What then? Also, he did say IN THE COMING YEARS, so in 2 years the 7970 won't be as nearly as competent as a 780 so there you have it.

Stop trolling. I have an opinion and I expect you to respect that. In return I will do the same to you. I think most will agree with me in that HD 7970 is the best value high end card. Everyone buy's a high end gaming graphics card to play games.

Wow rude aswell, now we don't appreciate your kind around here boy! I know @Focux here long anough to know he's a respectful member who tries to help.

To the OP: I will wait for the AMD 9000 series to come out, then I'll probbably get a 780 after the prices go down a bit :)

7970, or wait a few days for the 9xxx serie and see what it offers.A 7970 is cheap (~290$) and can play all the games you named in maxed/very high settings, in 1080p, for half the cost of the 780. ;)

But eh, if you really have a high budget (and don't need anything else - SSD, more RAM maybe, etc) Basically, don't cut on the other components simply to fit a 780 in there, if you have unlimited budget (or very high), than the 780 will deliver more performance of course, at a cost.

just plain maxed. no comprises there. it will deliver more than 60 fps at all times, i think

Anyway I love my ASUS 780 so I would be recommending that one for a 1080 P monitor but I guess that is just me...

Well you can't argue against 780 and how it's has very little value for money compared to 7970.

Hi there,

Sometimes I think we need more information to answer some questions.

If the question is so simple as "770 or 780", 780 always. And if you ask me between "780 or Titan", Titan always, in SLI if it's possible and watercooled.

If you desire is frames per second and max out games, get the best card for it as far as your GPU isn't bottlenecked.

Now, talking about money is different.

PD BTW: I get the point people answering "wait to AMD series". Now, I don't get the point in people answering "7970". That makes no sense to me in a post titled 770 or 780.

Read you guys!!

See you!

7970 just makes sense from a value and performance standpoint. Get 80% of Titan's performance for $300 plus 3 games of your choice seems like a no brainer.

I wouldn't recommend the 7970 now on the basis of it being a 2 year old card, and it's successor being announced in 10 days, and released in a month or so (speculation)...

7970 is a magnificent card, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone now until we see what the GCN 2 by AMD will bring. In 10 days we'll se what the next generation of AMD cards will be like compared to the 7000 series so after that maybe it'll be recommendable, but not now.

Also a 780 is a beast, and I myself plan to get it for gaming in 3d on a 1080p monitor. But only after the prices drop upon release of the next gen AMD cards. It should be good for the next 3 years or so, and since 770 is basically a facelifted 680 with glorified gpu boost I wouldn't recommend that for a rig set to run everything on high for next 2+ years so...

EDIT: minor grammatical retouching :)

9970 makes more sense to me right now. I don´t know is money is a point to him, but I guess the 9970 won't be more expensive than the 780 and it seems it's performance would be higher.
