7970, or wait a few days for the 9xxx serie and see what it offers.A 7970 is cheap (~290$) and can play all the games you named in maxed/very high settings, in 1080p, for half the cost of the 780. ;)

But eh, if you really have a high budget (and don't need anything else - SSD, more RAM maybe, etc) Basically, don't cut on the other components simply to fit a 780 in there, if you have unlimited budget (or very high), than the 780 will deliver more performance of course, at a cost.

I'm not bashing on people who have 780s, but in my humble opinion, I don't think you need more than a 770. I would save the money and invest in other things for the computer. I was able to install an SSD and a nice CPU heatsink with the money I saved getting a 7870 instead of a 7970 (I saved about $150 and the SSD was on sale) I would rather have those things than the best of the best graphics.

I only see the main difference in both cards when running high anti aliasing. But if you are like me and you like to use your TV to play on, you will not notice the jaggies as much because you are too far away from the screen.

And if you want to max out all games then it takes more than just a nice GPU. You need a nice CPU and RAM if you want fast loads and smooth frames.

I honestly think maxing out all games is the wrong way to go. In 5 years the 780 will be near obsolete anyways. That is why I go with high settings. I get a GPU that I do not mind tossing in a few years because I was never that heavily invested in it from the start. That nice GPU you get will be worthless in 5 years and if anyone disagrees then please, put a GPU from 2008 in your system and then play Bioshock Infinite.

I get 60 frames at 1080p on a dual core APU. Ask me how.

A 770/7970 will already max out almost everything at 1080p.

Wait for the 9000 series if you're not in a hurry.

All games?

770 will max pretty much every thing at high While 780 will max everything at Very High/Ultra

That doesn't make sense. "Max" means at the highest possible settings.

I think it depends on your setup, for 1 monitor 770 all the way, but surround gaming with 1 780 (before I got the second) and even with a titan before that, it wasn't really all that great.

Hi there,

Sometimes I think we need more information to answer some questions.

If the question is so simple as "770 or 780", 780 always. And if you ask me between "780 or Titan", Titan always, in SLI if it's possible and watercooled.

If you desire is frames per second and max out games, get the best card for it as far as your GPU isn't bottlenecked.

Now, talking about money is different.

PD BTW: I get the point people answering "wait to AMD series". Now, I don't get the point in people answering "7970". That makes no sense to me in a post titled 770 or 780.

Read you guys!!

See you!

Good topic. I also faced the 770 vs 780 dilemma a couple days earlier.

Decided on a 780. At least I can don't bother abt it for a good 2 years as I know it'll run any game on 1200p flawlessly.

But it's a Leadtek brand lol

No point in getting anything other than a 7970 right now for a high end card.

Everyone will have their own reason(s) for buying a high end card. Leave it at that for personal justification. Sweeping statements are not exigent.

Stop trolling. I have an opinion and I expect you to respect that. In return I will do the same to you. I think most will agree with me in that HD 7970 is the best value high end card. Everyone buy's a high end gaming graphics card to play games.

HAHAHA

this literally made me laugh.

He brings up a perfectly reasonable and respectful argument, yet somehow in your mind he's trolling?

He did exactly what you said; he respected your opinion yet you walked on his?

This is what I hate about the internet... 2 people; 3 opinions.

To OP:

Wait for 9xxx series to see what it does to the prices, if those cards don't take your fancy just go ahead and get a 780 (unless you have other upgrades that need attention)
