WTH AMD?

max_headroom

I have an R9 390 and love it so far.  I downloaded the update and it installed two bloatware.  One was a stupid recording software that's on by default.  I attempted to find the program's settings but couldn't find it.  It was slowing down my system while playing GTA5.  I just uninstalled it.  It's very intrusive and annoyed the f out of me.

Then there's the other program called raptor.  I don't know what it is but I uninstalled it.  I love my 390 but dang it AMD don't sneak such garbage into my PC.

By the way, do I need more RAM?  I have 8GB.  However when I run Open Hardware Monitor while playing GTA 5, my memory load was:

Load: 75%

Used: Max 5.9GB

Available: 6.2GB

Am I too close?  Will it help if I get more RAM?

I mean, you could get some more if you're gonna be running much more than that.  But if that's all you're going to be doing - I think you should be fine.

Raptr is amd's game launching client, free-reward service for playing games (Actually a VERY cool feature) and easy settings optimizer for your games. Its like geforce experience, and will notify you of driver updates and allow you to install them from it. It's actually not bad, just not necessary.

Plays.TV i agree though needs to not always record by default, it was a pain for me to change it's settings.

The programs came with the drivers on my Radeon HD 7850 too. Could've turned off the recording thing with win+g I believe, but I uninstalled that and raptor because I have no use for either of them. By ram do you mean the vram on your gpu or your system ram?

Hi guys, I mean my main ram.

I think the lowest it got was like 1.1gb free.

I've seen benchmarks where 4, 8 and 16 were put against each other and the difference was literally 1 or 2 frames per second.

I guess Raptor might be good.

Sorry for the ignorance.  I was a 10 year Nvidia veteran and new to AMD :D

I have a fury x... and two 390's mate. I've used plays.tv, its not horrendous, I just strongly prefer obs studio.

And i said plays.tv was pretty bad, I was saying raptr is actually pretty solid. C'mon, play enough games and get a free graphics card? Sounds pretty dope, and my htpc running a sapphire card from them is awesome.

Maybe upgrade to 16/32 when the next intel chipset comes out? The only potential issue is if the prices go up like ddr2 did.

I like to kill hardware. In 2016 alone I have killed 20 Xeon 5160, and 10+ Pentium 4.

Same thing happened when I installed Nvidia drivers, get that bloatware crap out of here. Next time always choose custom installation for any program you install.

Plays.tv is meant for streaming. You can tell if to not start up when windows starts.

Raptr is AMDs version of GeForce Experience. You can tell it to not start up when windows starts.

it was worse until they stopped trying and used Plays.TV for the streaming instead.

If you're not using 8gb of ram, then adding more is going to give you exactly 0 benefit. Having said that, you might find yourself needing more ram by the time intel releases the next line of cpus, but I highly doubt it.

This is why you use the custom installation option when available so you know exactly what you're installing.  True of both AMD, Nvidia or really any other software.
