How To: Basics - Installing a video card

People are dumping on the video over on youtube but I think it's a great series to have. I wish I had had a video like this when I was building my first system. Few places cover the retention clip and it took some guessing on my part to figure it out. Nice simple title which would come up in a youtube search as well meaning years down the road someone could find it.

Seems like whatever you guys do, someone will be hating you for it, so go ahead and keep doing what you do. I, personally will not enjoy every video, but if there's a good video every week and a diamond every month, I'm more than happy.

 

That's pretty much why I bought a LTT t-shirt.

I don't intend to sound harsh or whatever, but I really don't think this content works on your channel. Your viewerbase (based off of the content you put out, and the people I see comment) is far passed tutorials such as this, and to be quite honest, if someone did need to learn how to install a graphics card, the kinks of doing so, etc, they can search YouTube, click the first link (a tutorial made over 6 years ago with much of the same information as in your most recent video) watch that video, and learn everything they need to know. I can't really agree with having daily uploads of crazy, high level PC builds, insane servers, high end laptops, custom mods, things like Scrapyard Wars, etc., and a random basic noob tutorial out of the blue. I haven't really seen many people ask for it. I mean, sure, there are probably a few that have, but I doubt the number was large enough to justify this video (which, as of right now, is universally seen as just another, lazy, filler episode).

Now, just to clarify, I did say "on your channel" this does NOT mean that I don't want LMG to make basic beginner tutorials on another channel, but I don't really think that it works in the way you're releasing it. Keep in mind, that 2 years ago, you did have an incredibly beginner friendly video, here, which in my opinion, is more than adequate in terms of a tutorial. This GPU installation video is basically just a part from that video, with a few more bits of info and a better recording setup.

This is really drawn out, and probably pretty incoherent, but this is my opinion.

I don't necessarily dislike the video, I just believe that you've set your channel up in a way that makes this video not a suitable fit for it anymore.

Youtube needs to make a tag system with the option to view all tags (as a viewer) and decide if the creator included tags that don't belong there so there will be less abuse.

because of the crazy amount of clickbait and false tags the tags are not rated as much as the title

There are full builds that have a table of contents... THAT TAKES YOU TO THE PART YOU CLICKED ON.

The channel is literally called linus TECH TIPS. And this video is about a Tech. Tips. I wonder how people would have reacted if Linus hosted the video. 

 

When I google "How to install a Graphics card" the first video to show up is one from 2009.

But why would a Kid who is soo use to watching high quality videos, decided to learn from a 480p from 2009? And linus said multiple times, a good chunk of his views come from pass by viewers  who are not subscribed. And the guid he did before was never specific about how to specifically install it.

See... That argument would've really only made sense if it was Ed or (god forbid) Taran. 

 

A lazy filler video is a lazy video. Don't try to play it off.

Putting a GPU in a PC doesn't deserve a 5 minute video, it deserves a 20 second segment like they've done in past build guides

But it's obvious this video isn't meant for his subscribers. They do a video everyday, and this one is for everyone else in the world who one day in the fututre might want to build a PC.

People keep referencing our build videos, which are not searchable at all for individual parts installs and do not replace the purpose of this video.

Either way, the simple answer is we're testing new formats here in Q1 to see what works and what doesn't. If you didn't like it there will be plenty more content for you to view soon

Is there going to be one for everything, like "how to install RAM", how to install "HDD", etc.?  I worry that there would be a lot of videos with 20 seconds of content and the rest the normal ad if this is the case.  Maybe one 15 minute video of "how to build a PC" in detail would have been enough?  IDK, to be honest I haven't watched this one yet

That's absolutely true; and I fully support tutorials for newbies... But this has been covered in very detailed full builds before.

 

This seems like a "Shit. What can we pump out while we wait for scrapyard wars?" And this is what we got. At best, this is a lazy idea for a video.

Then this topic wouldn't exist because only "LTT" videos get topics in the official forum. All others don't deserve official topics and must be made manually by users in a different section of the forum.

tbh these last weeks have been kinda lame. idk whats going on with you guys but you seem to find ways to make the most boring / unprepared / missleading videos of all time

 

and if your going to call your video "how to basic"
I expect at least an egg

If you look around all the other videos suck compared to this. Honestly doing basic stuff like this would help the channel a ton. Not in the sense of crazy content but bringing in new viewers.
