Which Graphics Card for 1440p?

ThatsMyGamer

Hello! I'm wondering which graphics card I should use for 1440p gaming and video editing. I was looking at the 295X2 and the HD 7990 but both of these are either out of stock or extremely expensive (I'm talking Titan Z expensive). So, for AMD I'm left with the Fury X, R9 390, and R9 390X. For nVidia my best options are the original Titan, 980ti, 980, 780, 780ti, and 970. Additionally, I don't mind using two graphics cards or spending in the $600-$1000 range, but anything more than that I will regard with skepticism. Thanks for any help I can get!

A GTX 970 should be fine, Though for the extra vram go for a AMD card or a 980 Ti. 1440p isn't that much more intensive than 1080p so you should be fine.

Hope this helps :P

Fury X or 980 TI - both perform around the same at 1440p

Wrong. It's 33% more demanding and a 970 will kneel cause of the VRAM

Thanks. For more intensive games (i.e. Project CARS, most FPSs) would the extra VRAM make a difference?

3.5GB is not enough for 1440p

Yeah a 970 is lacking in 1440p.

980 at the minimum if you want to get above 40fps at decent details.

the r9 fury would be a better option than the 980

I'm aware of that, but the 980 is much more capable, from NVIDIA's side the 980 many times over the 970.

If he wants to play CSGO at 1440p He should be ok but 6GB of vram is a must for any other game.

A 970 wont cut it for 1440p without lowering the settings quite a bit just get a 980ti and dont have to worry about lowering settings at all.

CS:GO uses 1GB at 1080p with 200fps. Crank that up to 300fps and you get 1.5GB of VRAM at 1080p (this is without AA). Go to 1440p and you're over 2GB. Add AA and you're hitting 3GB

I disagree. I had a 1440P display with my 970 and it worked just fine.

Was playing GTA 5, Battlefield 4 etc just fine.

Too expensive. Not worth it. 600$ max for a Fury X or 650$ for a 980 Ti

Well..no.

But I could still play play at "high-ish settings"

Obviously a 980 is preferable but you could survive with a 970.

Anyway, I moved back to 1080P because the difference didn't justify the price in my opinion.
