Best Core 2 Duo E8400 overclock ever?

Just now, MechanicalEngineer said:

What kind of graphics card you running in your E8400 system?

I run my GTX 650ti with my LGA775 computers, my GTX 970 stays with my main desktop.

Nice, yeah I find that anything more powerful than a GTX 650 is too much for the E8400.

Surprising how many games you're still able to play, though.

Ikr? Though games from about 2010-2011 started using quad cores properly, so mine does struggle a bit with them (4 cores at 3GHz=better than 2 cores at 4.4GHz).

Yeah, and I just had the RAM die at 2.22V. And it wasn't even getting warm.

Well the computer is acting the way my others have when they've had the RAM die. And if they really are dead I'm going to be pissed, they were new in box until 2014, and I've only ever taken them up to the 2.2V stated on them. Bios resets are doing nothing BTW.

*facedesk* I had to switch the sticks around-don't ask me why as all of my computers do strange stuff.

Tried overvolting everything overvoltable as high as possible... this board is retarded and does not let you key in values... and is it just me or is a vcore option not existant?

And still 411 is as high as I can go and still have the board detect my sata drive. Any higher and it just fails to detect it.

Though if you compare my cpu's ability to overclock and simply post at the stock voltages with 667mhz ram, I win.

Wow that BIOS looks really basic o.O

I see what you're talking about with there being no Vcore.....or seemingly anything lol

This is what I work with in my Gigabyte P45 DS3P motherboard:

That bios has almost nothing in comparison to the bios on nearly all of my old motherboards from the late 90's/early 2000's.

It still has more options than my HP WX4600 boards, and they have a kickass chipset, but NO tweaking options

That's insane, yeah I haven't seen so few options in a BIOS since I was playing around with a Pentium 3 last time.

Getting a 4.2GHz overclock seems pretty decent though.

Well, the 4.2 ghz was just a POST and nothing else. I have been farting around with a 1.8ghz pentium dual core on this same board and I managed 2.8ghz, never had any HDD issues though. RAM matters. A lot. Only one out of ~30 sticks managed to hit 310mhz

That's what BSEL mods are for...with one I could get a Xeon X5470 running at 4GHz, with no change to the bios settings (if they are even there to be set). And you can run 2x of them on a motherboard....

Oh yeah, cause of your SATA thing.

It does sound like a weird motherboard issue, because if you're CPU-limited then usually the system will blue-screen.

Even my crappy Gigabyte G31M-ES2L still managed a 4GHz overclock and was stable under load, but yeah, not a great idea to overclock with a cheapo board like that when it's likely the motherboard will get fried.

This is how: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?232678-E8xxx-Q9xx0-FSB-1600-pin-mod

You mod it so the FSB runs at 1600/400 instead of 1333/333.

Actual guide, all LGA775 C2D have the same pin layout:

Its very similar to the socket mod that lets you use LGA771 Xeons on LGA775 boards-except you don't need to cut the socket at all or buy a special sticker.

I have seen the bsel mods for other frequencies but those are harder than just putting a piece of tape down. Also I covered the two pins next to the notch and its still at 1333mhz fsb.... hmmmmmm......
