G3258 vs I5 3350P

Hi Guys,

i just found an I5 3350P in my basement. Somebody dissassembled his PC and threw away the MB, RAM and CPU. I took the Ram and the CPU, it was 2x4GB Modules of DDR3, and they work, so will the CPU i think.

So the question is: Will the i5 3350P beat my G3258 a lot that a new 1155 MB would be worth it?

Im just having 1150 MB here and im not able to test it :/

I just finished my Rainbow Six 200€ build with my G3258 -.-

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600X | GPU: Vega 64   | RAM: 32 GB G.Skill Trident Z | Storage:  Samsung 850 / Corsair MP510  | Mainboard: ASUS X570 Prime Pro | Case: Fractal Define R6 | PSU: Corsair RM750i  | Cooling: Custom Waterloop

Honestly it'd probably beat the performance of your G3258 by a lot, considering it has 4 cores instead of 2, but I'm not sure if that's worth it to you.

Yeah it will kick the G3258's ass. Except in the most purely singlethreaded benchmarks.

LGA 1155 boards are basically EOL now, so you'd want to find one used.

G3258 is quite good still and the socket has nice upgrade possibilities. I would not spend anything on an 1155 mobo, but save for a descent 2nd hand 1150 K- processor..

Get a G3258, overclock it to 4,2-4,4GHz (even a cheap H81 motherboard can do it) then upgrade to a  4690k or a 4770k. You can buy a H81 MB and a G3258 for about $100.

Not sure if a dice roll on a used MoBo is worth the improvement over a G3258.

Depends on what $50 means to you.

Are you certain the CPU is in working order? If it is, the extra $50 on an LGA 1155 motherboard will be worth it in terms of performance, but it's been lying in your basement. See if you can find a way to check if it works, and if it does, I'd say the motherboard is more than worth it.

Well - the main Problem is that i finished my build with the G3258 last week...

I will try getting a 1155 board and check if the CPU works. Maybe it would be better to sell it and buy something for 1150?

Sell the i5 and pentium and get a 4690k. That's the best choice so far.

Talking about performance the I5 3350P will dominate.
