I'll probably get something like a Note 5 or whatever the latest one is, my PC is wired to my router so that should help a bit.

I would love to get one but I don't know if I want to pre-order it or wait for the cost to go down or maybe wait for better version since these are 1st gen products. The early adopter price is pretty big to and the biggest reason why I'm on the fence on buying one.

The Oculus Rift is right at the edge of what makes sense for me. I have pre-ordered it, but not first day since I needed some more time to save up for it, and it'll get that bit more game and driver support in the meantime. 

 

I would have picked the Vive if it had been in my price range, but the 990€ price tag made it an easy decision. 743€ for the Rift is bad enough.

I'd consider VR if I didn't have to pay around $1050 USD for the VIVE / slightly less for .the rift

I haven't used VR and the idea is pretty cool to me. But was scares me is you're paying $800 to have an up close 3D monitor that blocks out surrounding light. Yes, they've designed controllers for it and that's cool. But does it really feel like you're in the world or does it feel like you usually do when playing a game only this time you're wearing a silly looking mask?

Nah cardboard is garbage. the screen is not 90hz+ and 2K or whatever.

Well a lot of phones have 1440P displays these days, which is more than the Vive's 2160x1200, although the Vive does indeed have a higher refresh rate at 90Hz, compared to most phone's 60.

Speaking from my experience with a Oculus DK2 in Elite: Dangerous, Project Cars, DCS World, and a few other games/experiences.  Current VR is like having a disembodied head in another world that you are wearing a helmet in.  Imagine putting on a set of ski or paintball googles (With a piece of window screen over them for the DK2) and look around in real life.  You have a slightly limited field of view but you get the visual cues of scale, height, speed, you would have in the real world (or a pretty good approximation anyway) but you don't get the other senses like touch, smell, g-forces, temperature, ect.

 

When you look out the canopy of a jet in DCS you get the feeling you are very high up and going very fast, unfortunately none of your other senses confirm this. This is weird at first and can make some people sick but I've found the more i use it the less this affects me as I've come to accept I wont get those additional cues.  The experience of flying an jet close to the ground with trees and buildings whipping past is incomparable to anything short of actually doing it or dreaming it.

 

Comparing VR to a 3d monitor is like comparing looking out the window to actually going outside. you see the depth from the window but your not really immersed in it.

 

I haven't tried the Vive room scale VR yet but I can't wait as being able to walk around and actually track my hands will be another step closer to an actual VR body.

I can't wait to get the newer high res HMDs when they ship to reduce the screen effect and make fine details more clear.

 

Tracked haptic feedback body suits would be awesome as well but I think current VR needs to get some traction first. After a few generations I think we are going to see some really crazy stuff.

I think that the cost of the Vive and Oculus could be a bit lower. But the issue for many people including me is the cost of the hardware, which seems to be he general consensus at this point in the life of VR.

There's already ways to do that.

It's annoying to get set up and i haven't seen anyone use it with major games but its possible.

I preordered mine early so I will get it in April and already upgraded my pc to be ready. 

 

900$ with shipping and taxes would've felt like a good price to me, ~970€ was bit of a tough swallow.

I don't even know yet how much exactly it's going to cost me in the end because I had to pay in euros, which isn't the local currency where I live, and it seems like the price included 19% VAT whereas we only have 8%..
