Depression

Go to solution Solved by Deli,

Have a regular structure for everyday activities. For example, I must work 5 days a week. I must wake up at a certain time every day, go to work, meet and socialise with colleagues at work. Stay at home for too long will make thing worse.

Exercise. I know. I don't like exercise either. At least choose something you don't hate. Whether It's running or swimming. For me it's cycling. Do one hour/40Km cycling 4-5 times a week. Push hard, sweat a lot, breath fresh air outside in the wood. It helps a lot to elevate your mood and energy to do something else.

Do some simple things to have a feeling you have achieve something. Things as simple as cleaning the house, or wash your car. Something doesn't require a lot of motivation and mental energy, so it's easier to get yourself start. To get something done gives you a feeling you wants to do other things. To get the ball rolling.

Go out and meet friends, watch a movie, have dinner together. Not sitting in front of your PC and chat. You need to meet people face to face.

Hey...

I'm currently suffering from depression. I assume that in a community as diverse as this, others have been through similar things. I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to cope/get over it.

I'm here to help people and have fun. Feel free to chat!

Finding distractions and getting obsessed with projects.
That's been my jam for dealing with my coming and going periods of *probably mild* depression.

That said, getting some exercise has also helped me. Its just chemistry.

The best person to talk to this about is your doctor, They can diagnose and make great decisions on ways to help. you might just need a good hour long chat with them, or they might think you need medication and a psychologist. But either way they and you are the ones that need to talk about this. Otherwise you get anwsers like "drinking" (while drinking is a short term antidepressant, it is a long term depressant, and not a good way to treat any illness other than kidney stones :P)

I've been through many doctors and other professionals, and while I recommend people speak and have a friendly dialogue with professionals I got little help from them.  In the end I found my interest in helping people repair tech, getting into music, and driving myself to focus on new things.

PC - NZXT H510 Elite, Ryzen 5600, 16GB DDR3200 2x8GB, EVGA 3070 FTW3 Ultra, Asus VG278HQ 165hz,

Mac - 1.4ghz i5, 4GB DDR3 1600mhz, Intel HD 5000.  x2

Endlessly wishing for a BBQ in space.

Drinking

I'm under 18. Not an option. And I don't think that self medicating with alcohol is a healthy idea. I have a history of addiction in my family and I don't want to go down that path.

I'm not sure I want to talk to a doctor on account of the likelihood that they will diognisr me and want to put me on medication. They sometimes over do things

But thank you :)

Well the medication is actually rather glorious, once you find one that works.

I want to learn to cope and get over my feelings rather than become dependant on drugs of ANY kind to stay happy and healthy. Alcohol, cannabis, prescription meds. Any of it...

Well yea that's respectable. Antidepressants are habit forming, not addictive but hard to come off once your on them.

That sounds like dependency and addiction. Either way I don't think it is for me.

What are you depressed about?

I'm not depressed about anything in particular. I just am breaking down very easily and finding it very hard to deal wish mundane tasks and problems. There are other things that agrivatte it and make it worse but I don't feel comfortable talking about that.

simply because you are prescribed something doesnt mean you have to take it. health care is a two way street, voice your concern over not wanting to take meds and your doctor can work with you for an alternative therapy

I'm worried that there will be pressure for me to do what any medical experts says. I'm under 18 and I live with my parents.

The post that you marked as "best answer" is really good advice. The key is to keep yourself busy (job, hobby, volunteering), preferably do things with other people. You can also try to get a pet! ^ - ^
