Depression

Go to solution Solved by Deli,

Have a regular structure for everyday activities. For example, I must work 5 days a week. I must wake up at a certain time every day, go to work, meet and socialise with colleagues at work. Stay at home for too long will make thing worse.

Exercise. I know. I don't like exercise either. At least choose something you don't hate. Whether It's running or swimming. For me it's cycling. Do one hour/40Km cycling 4-5 times a week. Push hard, sweat a lot, breath fresh air outside in the wood. It helps a lot to elevate your mood and energy to do something else.

Do some simple things to have a feeling you have achieve something. Things as simple as cleaning the house, or wash your car. Something doesn't require a lot of motivation and mental energy, so it's easier to get yourself start. To get something done gives you a feeling you wants to do other things. To get the ball rolling.

Go out and meet friends, watch a movie, have dinner together. Not sitting in front of your PC and chat. You need to meet people face to face.

Try your best to get a young kitten or puppy. When I brought home my kitten Patches my depression was almost completely gone, about a month later I stopped taking my anti-depressants. This was 3 years ago now. My current house I can't have cats (She went to a great friend and I still get to go see her)

About a month ago I brought home a Corgi/German Shepherd named Max. He has helped me out so much with stuff, and I'm also super happy in a relationship now. A pet or a significant other can help you an absurd amount. I also recommend going out and hanging out with friends, make really good friends, my group has helped me out a lot.

But thank you :)

Talking to a doctor is probably the best option. The trouble with depression is that it's different for many people. Some people just cope with it by leaving it alone, some people medicate it, some people see a psychiatrist and some people regiment their days.

I think that the best option is to structure your days into a regular schedule and try a course of antidepressants. Having both will hopefully do the trick.

I think the issue for me was that it's easier said than done to structure your days, especially as with my job I'm sometimes working 48 hours a week, sometimes 60 so it's difficult to have a schedule that fits around that.

Be aware that we cannot give you medical advise, nor will I allow it. We are most likely normal, everyday people with insufficient knowledge of psychology. If you are having depression problems, please keep in mind your doctor if things are not improving. While being put on medication can suck, it's designed to change the chemistry of the brain to reduce depression - as mentioned on the first page, it's all chemistry. Please don't allow it to get to the point where you would, for example consider suicide as a solution.

The post that you marked as "best answer" is really good advice. The key is to keep yourself busy (job, hobby, volunteering), preferably do things with other people. You can also try to get a pet! ^ - ^

I'm in high school and have a job. I love my job but I am having to work less and less because of shool related things.

And u have two dogs. Live them to death and they really are a big help :)

I'm here to help people and have fun. Feel free to chat!
