I have the EVGA SuperSC (SSC) ACX 2.0. It's almost always near-silent, it never goes over 75c, even when overclocked, it's never crashed on me, and my particular card requires two six-pin connectors instead of 8+6. It's also a comparably short card, so it's good for smaller cases. It's definitely the one I stand behind. :)

I have that one.... and it sounds like a jet engine taking off when under load.

The answer: Don't get a gtx 970. Get an r9 390.

Except that's not true in the slightest. My card does not go over 75c, and the fans never go over 1,000 RPM. I can't hear it over my case fans, and that's not bullshit. Between it, my RM750 (with the same type of fan -- 0dB under low loads) and quiet case fans, my PC is near-silent. Do not spread false information to fuel the AMD circlejerk. What if he wants a GTX 970 for things other than gaming? You don't know. So answer his question, and don't lie. Furthermore, the fan on the card is silent under 50% load, and 50% is already 2,000RPM, which is more than enough to cool the card.

Welp, I saw this circlejerk about the 390 coming.

OP, what games do you play and what CPU and PSU do you have? My sig and my 390 vs. 970 thread can really help in you choosing a card.

When my card reaches load I can often hear a noticeable difference. I suddenly hear a loud humming sound whenever I start running a game. I notice the difference in noise. Mine usually reaches the high 70s (without OC).

Are you confusing fan noise (which sounds like moving air) with coil whine? Because a large majority of modern GPUs deal with coil whine, and the 970 (and the 390) are no exceptions. Unless you set up a custom fan profile, the card should not run its fans over 25-40% under load.

I play Just Cause 3, GTA V, ARK, Rust, Fallout 4 and some Battlefront. Can this card max out Dying Light at 60 fps?

I am pretty sure it is fan noise.

I did set a custom fan profile though. That was cause I OC it and it was getting a little too hot for my tastes so I ramped up the fan speed but the OC turned out to be unstable (my display driver kept crashing) so I turned it down but didn't change the fan profile back.

That could be the reason. You might be right.

It was pretty silent with the default fan profile.
