Siri for Mac will be one of OS X 10.12’s major new features

Meh, I never really felt the need for this sort of thing. It's just one of those things that seems superfluous and pointless to me. Not to mention I don't have a mac nor plan to get one, but the same applies to cortana.

Still, can't hurt to have the option - and it IS a bit weird that they'd implement this only now given that they lead the charge in that sense for a bit on mobile.

You have no idea how bad their file system is. It's really awful for any meaningful organization which is why they made spotlight so awesome and Siri for Mac would also make up for Finder.

For all those crazy people who somehow benefit from Siri/cortana/google now on phones. (and anyone who types at 5 wpm)

HEY! I like personal assistants everywhere. It pissed me off having to wait for Cortana on Windows to be there since i had it on my phone.

I find Siri mostly useful when I want to know something and I don't have my iPad to hand (and it is plugged in - hoping for 6S style always on Siri in the future). Usually in the morning I will ask what time it is, what the weather is going to be like etc.

It is kind of useful, but I can't imagine what I'd do with it on my MBP...

Not use finder and use siri instead :)

makes sense I guess, although a more logical solution would be to just change the file system - at this point they could just use zfs even

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

When i said File system i meant File explorer thingy. They call it "Finder' they've used it for almost 10 years and it sucks really bad.

could still be a consequence of how the filesystem handles indexing - ms has had this on lockdown for years so I don't see why apple couldn't do the same if there were no other obstacles.

I'll actually agree with that. Finder is pretty much awful. Don't know what it is but I find it annoying to use.

This is Finder albeit an older version but it should still show you how bad it is.

They are most useful when you don't have the device to hand, but it is in the same room. For example when my iPad is plugged in and charging I can just say "hey siri" and then give her a command or question. It's a lot quicker than walking over, picking the thing up, unlocking it and then typing it into google or whatever.

What's wrong with Finder? Other than the fact that the search bar within Finder is god awful.

You misunderstood. I know what Finder is, hence I agree with it being bad. I just can't put my finger on what it is that annoys me and what makes it suck which I why said I don't know what it is.

the GUI is nasty. No up or refresh button.

The search is awful. It's clunky and not intuitive.

That's my 2 cents.

You just right click on the Top centre bar of the Finder to go up. And you don't need refreshing in OS X. I agree the search bar is kinda awful but you can change it's search behaviour in the settings anyway. I find the folder system to be less cluttered than Windows in the sense I only have my documents and applications folder visible and not get mixed with the system files/folder

Whatever. I think personally "Explorer" is better than "Finder". Even linus agreed in his 5K iMac video!

Linus? Meh I don't even watch his videos anymore. To each his own. I'm happy with OS X

In an ideal world I would own a Linux machine,  a Mac and several PCs.
