It's easy to install a graphics card, really hard to mess up. You'll be fine.

Current Build: Core i7 4790k @ 4.6, Asus Maximus VII Hero, Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400mhz 8gb (2x4gb), GTX 980ti, NZXT Kraken X61, Fractal Define R5  EVGA Supernova B2 850w, Some 300gb hard drive.

Make sure you get the AMD drivers and crimson software installed before you put the card in.

If you are having issues, connect to onboard graphics an attempt to resolve driver issues.

Can you install them before? Idk at least with NVIDIA you can't

you don't even need to uninstall the nvidia drivers...but you can uninstall them within the windows control panel.

then you can uninstall nvidia experience and other cool softwares you no longer will get the privilege to use.

And then you can pop in your new card and boot, windows will install a generic driver for it and then from there install the buggy crimson shit and broken drivers and you should be good to go :)

Good luck!

i really recommend this, i had some funky driver issues in the process of upgrading win8->win10, DDU ended up being the solution.

on top of this, i recommend the following process:

- power on machine in original state

- download the latest installer for the new drivers and put it in an easily accessible location

- remove old drivers (with DDU)

- power off machine

- unplug old card

- plug in new card (dont mess up the order of these two steps, it gets tight ;))

- power on machine

- install the new drivers

- reboot if required (with nvidia you dont have to anymore, not sure about the amd side)

wow is AMD that bad? i mean the AMD card will not even care if there are some amazing nvidia files here and there...it'll work even if he does not uninstall anything...afterburner will detect the card, windows will detect the card and auto-install generic amd driver for it...then he can install broken crimson and move on? what is all this fuss about :P

well, i dont say you wont have issues if you just slam in the new card and install your drivers overtop of the old ones, but thats how you bloat your windows install and end up with a computer that needs 2 minutes to boot off of an SSD.

its not about doing it the way that works, it about doing it the way that leaves behind the least potential issues to happen.

EDIT: should add i am an exclusive nvidia user myself (i have my reasons) and recommend this process both ways.

I have not had a singe issue with Crimson, it fixed my constant crashing with CCC, and now I can quickly change something without dying of old age waiting for CCC to launch, I hear the Nvidia control panel still has that.

both GFE and the nvidia control panel load up decently quickly for me recently, not saying it couldnt be faster, but i'm pleased with what its now compared to the disaster it was not too long ago.

i should give crimson a try, but i doubt it'll support my trusty old HD5770.

I would uninstall what is not needed from nvidia within the windows control panel, but i would probably pop in the new card and install IT'S drivers first and see if everything works fine and then i would clean up the mess...that's usually how i do it.

It's a new device, windows will install new drivers for it and then you can manually install crimson and latest drivers...having nvidia experience and nvidia's flawless drivers on your hard drive will not affect this process in any ways. :)

i'm a troll...don't take me seriously in this topic...of course crimson is fine, but nvidia experience and nvidia control panel also work perfectly (at least on my system)

Huh, I'd heard complaints from other people, and I rember hearing AMD made a beta Crimson driver for non-GCN cards.

he is right there is a crimson compatible driver for legacy cards (can you believe that the HD6970 and HD6990 which are still quite powerful even when compaired to current cards has been ruled out has being too old and no longer supported yet people are bashing on nvidia not supporting their old hardware yet they still roll out drivers compatible with GPU's as old as the GTX 280, a friend of mine is still rocking a GTX 480 and he play rise of the tomb raider on it with the latest drivers and it works perfectly!)

TLDR your card will work with crimson, but no more driver released for it...ever.

honestly, nvidia's new drivers "work" with the old cards, but they dont actually change anything on their performance, they just work under the new drivers.

i kinda am still salty about the drivers i had to use with my hd5770 not properly supporting vsync tho...

especially because i had to purposely cpu-tank my games to stop it from tearing itself apart...

they are still fixing bugs and glitches or compatibility issues that can happen with older cards in newer games...maybe they do not actively optimise for them, but they are still supported and should be relatively bug free which is a big plus.
