I got my license from college when i went there. It was a full version of windows 8 pro.

And yes version does matter. there are two types. x86 (or 32 bit) and x64 (64bit). you will most definitely want Windows 10 Home 64 bit!

In our school we had this DreamSpark event thingy where you get to register to Microsoft DreamSpark on the venue.

Dreamspark account includes lots of free stuff but all I cared about was the free Windows 7 Pro. Eventually a year after, when W8 was released, W8 was also free on the account.

So yea, got a W7 Pro and W8 Pro for free. Sadly last I checked, the account is already disabled.

(good thing I have the keys on my E-mail, so I can just DL a clean installer and put in those keys).

You should check your school too. I think you can apply to DreamSpark by yourself but you should have a school e-mail that is registered to MS.

I paid like over $200 for my Windows 7 Home Premium (Retail licese) yes it was expensive, but it was a shit load better than XP x64. When I was a student as community college the first time, I got Windows XP 32 bit and 64 bit pro, for like $28. Thats what happens sometimes with educational institutions. You get great discounts.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Friendly reminder to all, talking about how to pirate software is against the forum rules. And is about the worst thing you can do here. You can get banned for this without warning.

Thanks

On top of the code of conduct on the forum. Pirated software is not guaranteed malware free. Yeah, Windows is expensive. Just bite the bullet and buy it.

I was wondering, since I'm starting to build a pc, where did you all get windows? and how much?, version does not matter and I will no judge if its not legit, just curious and it may help me out in my build.

Just buy it from a store or MS.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.
