Steam keeps saying that i'm playing a game, but i'm really not.....

So steam keeps saying i'm "Playing DiRT Rally" when i am legit not. Its not running in my task manager so i cant close it, and if steam is not open my friends see me as offline, as soon as i start steam i allegedly start playing Dirt Rally.

I have verified the cache files, twice. And have even reinstalled steam...

The only way i can get it to stop saying that im playing it is when i force close steam in task manager, turn off antivirus and restart steam as administrator. Then as soon as i play a game, it goes back to saying that im playing Dirt Rally.

How do i fix this, because if i actually want to play DiRT Rally i cant because STEAM SAYS ITS ALREADY RUNNING.

Have you tried doing a restart, then try launching the game? Doing a clean restart can help clear any programs that might be stuck running in the background.

Check the login history on your account. Your account may have been compromised in the recent hack. Change your password, it's likely someone is playing dirt, just not you. Use two factor authentication (sometimes called two step login or two step verification) as another small layer of security.

People wouldn't be stupid enough to do that. If anything they'd at least change the password so that the actual owner couldn't get in. :|

Restart your PC, if that doesent work try changing your steam password (very unlikley that you have been hacked but it will force your account to update on the servers) I had the problem where i was "playing" CSGO but i wasnt..... A restart sorted it
