Hello everyone! I am currently building a new PC and wanted to know what would be the best option when it comes to deciding what GPU to get. I have to decide between purchasing two MSI GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6G's or waiting until the release of the new NVIDIA Pascal. I am really excited about the Pascal because it should have display port 1.3 allowing 4K monitors to go beyond a 60hz refresh rate. The rumor is that Pascal could be released around April during the GPU Technology Conference. If this is true, should I just wait two more months for the Pascal? Thanks for any advice or help! :)

No. It's not gonna be a Maxwell killer unless Nvidia deliberately slashes Maxwell's performance.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

The best option.. when buying a video card, I think, is to just buy the best that you can afford when you need to get it.  Because you can always wait and see if this comes out, or wait and see if this price drops, or spend xxx $ more to get this instead, or whatever.

2 980ti's are still going to be plenty relevant for a while.

Pascal is rumoured to be released Q3 this year. April might be the Titan.

Whats the Titan coming in april? Is it part of the Pasca GPU's? Sorry if it is a noob question I just don't know to much about upcoming Nvidia GPU

Nobody knows much about Pascal for gaming performance lol. All we know is that it has way higher compute performance than maxwell. I'd just get a card now. Yes, Pascal might be a lot better in the future like Maxwell vs. Kepler, but it's just not worth the wait since you won't be gaming for like 6 months.

I know its just rumors and speculation but if this is true, I am willing to wait until April for a new Titan model.

They usually release the flagship after the architecture has been implemented in the lower end cards. No one really knows when they're gonna be released. You can wait til April if you want though.

I would jump on the two 980 ti's in a heartbeat, but like everyone else the Pascal models seem promising seeing that they most likely will have display port 1.3 which will allow 4K monitors to push past 60hz refresh rate. Also, if I was getting an EVGA model 980 Ti there wouldn't be a problem since they have a 90 day upgrade feature but since I'm getting the MSI 980 Ti that isn't the case. Nvidia released the higher end GPU's first for the 900 series. The 980/970 came out in September 2014 followed by 960 in January 2015 then Titan X in march 2015. The 950 which is the cheapest model came out last in August 2015 so they could release the high end GPU's first. I hope! :)

it can potentially be a maxwell killer as there is a die shrink so it costs less to make material wise and there are rumors of massively better performance

Just get whats out now, that fits into your budget, you can wait for ever if you don't, Nvidia probably won't stop optimizing drivers for maxwell for a good while yet, and the 980ti will still be a very strong card for another 18 months or so....

I'd keep an eye out for polaris and pascal, but i wouldn't be surprised if neither fail to live up to expectations.

It wouldn't surprise me if both deliver less than 20% improvement over the 980ti and fury X respectively. That's not bad if you are coming from a 780 or 2/390 though and It may deliver 980ti ish performance for under £350.

eh, it depends how good your old PC is. If you have the money and want that shit NAO, then buy NAO!

If your stuff is enough to wait but not really satisfying anymore just wait ^.-

Buy when you can especially at the best price to performance ratio higher which is the R9 390 or higher (980, 980 Ti). The new generation when released will be more expensive and you will have a hard time finding stocks for just a couple percent of performance increase (usually) from its previous generation.
