CS:GO Rank?

Bob Jim

I am wondering if you guys could predict what rank I will end up in before stalling, at my current skill level. I am GN1 and top frag most of my games. I know the basic smokes and flashes, and I think I have fairly decent game sense. My main problem is shooting. I am fine with weapons that are tap fire, so pistols, shotguns, etc. Also fine with run-and-gun SMGs (duh), and tap shooting rifles. But I am TERRIBLE with awp, and spray control. My biggest bonus though, is as per the rest of my life I don't really panic or get pressured.

Obviously vague, but where would you roughly say I might end up? BTW, I tend to try to be IGL on T side, calling starts, as it is sooooo easy to outsmart regular MM players. I relay on strats and game sense, rather than good shooting.

Is this post "Rank Crisis"? I.e. have you played comp in the past few weeks? If so then you're just about average.

For ranking up, wins are more important than K/D (kill death ratio). I don't know how much of a team player you are from what you have said, so I thought I'd put that there. A good part of competitive is knowing when you 'got to take one for the team'.

As for the aiming, that's the only thing I'm good at so I can help with that. Especially the Awp  B)

Practice in non-Valve Death Match servers. These are much faster paced and allow you to spend more time working on actual aiming than just finding the enemy. Just go to "Community Servers", search "DM" or "Deathmatch", and find one that's a deathmatch only server. You can also find "HS" or "Headshot" only servers as well. Perfect for tap shooting.

Download some aim maps.

For sprays, this one is vital.

For reaction time, this one is one of the best.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=213240871

Find a few random maps to practice offline with (great for warmup). Set the bots on the highest setting and just deathmatch it with some music.

Ones I recommend;

The awp and scout are completely different from any other weapon in the game. I recommend watching 'pro' players play with the awp. Some good awpers are GuardiaN (one of the best right now) and KennyS (one of the most infamous).

You need to perfect the 'flick shot', and have a good reaction time.

I'm very good with the awp, it's always been my best gun. My reaction time after warmup is under 0.2 seconds and my flick shot is consistent.

Test reaction time here. It's important to find ways to improve reaction time (everything from what you eat (i.e. lay off the chips) to just plain practice).

http://getyourwebsitehere.com/jswb/rttest01.html

For flick shots, use the reaction time map I have there. Set the delay to 2.00S, and the static duration to 0.5S. Use a scout and go to the second level. After you take a shot, aim at the center to 'reset' your aim for the next shot. You only have half a second to aim so you'll have to 'flick'.

For hard mode change the static duration to 0.25S. This improves 'instinct' for sure since your brain probably won't be fast enough to make the move consistently on its own.

The awp and scout are fairly similar. Just the scout you can do more ballsy movements, do jumpshots (it's accurate when at the highest point of a jump), and you have to go for HS for a one-shot kill.

edit;

Some useful commands for offline practice.

sv_regeneration_force_on 1

This makes health regenerate very quickly. Perfect for 'one taps'. If you miss the head the health of the bot will usually regenerate too fast for you to just 'spray'. I recommend using an AK47 due to the one-hit HS ability.

sv_showimpacts 1

This shows *actually* where your bullets are going. Red is client side (what your computer will show), blue is 'server side' (where it actually went). I found this very helpful for improving my movements (I would shoot before I actually stopped moving, and thus my first shots were inaccurate).

Aim is all about muscle memory and practice. It's best to get into good habits early so you don't have to 'catch up' later.

Sorry for the long and not entirely on-topic post, imagine there was a potato for you here.

"Normandy" i7 4790K - GTX 970 - Phantom 410 (Gun metal) - Z97 Extreme4 (asrock) - 128GB Crucial SSD - 1TB WD HDD - H60 Refurb. - 7 case fans | G710+ Keyboard, G230 Headset, Acer GN246HL Monitor.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

Woah... Thanks a ton. I started ranked MM just after the patch, so I was unaffected by it. My reaction time is I guess the main reason I fail with the awp, unless it is an angle like long doors where the enemy runs towards you, I rarely hit the shot. The thing I like to do in MM is being completely creative. Like, I have discovered myself about 5 different one way smokes on B site mirage, I do ballsy plays then retreat, etc. 'Surprise is half the battle' :P

Surprise will only get you so far. Eventually you'll start facing players who know the stuff you do (i.e. the smokes and some plays), and be able to figure out a 'surprise' play before it's too late. Surprise plays can be useful, but against experienced players they don't work consistently.

A good part of playing with the awp is knowing how fast you can react, and then where to place the crosshair. For example, my reaction time is good, but not good enough to hit CTs crossing mid-doors from CT-spawn to B on Dust2. I place my crosshair slightly on the left door and then rely on flicks to hit someone through the door when they pass. This is very consistent. Not even some of the best players can get a consistent shot through mid-doors. If you're watching a 'corner', place the crosshair in the direction the enemy will peak. That way they 'walk' into your shot by the time you react. It's difficult to describe, which is why I highly suggest watching some dedicated AWPers.

With the rank shift you sound around Silver Elite Master/ GN1.

Not a bad starting rank.

I tend to rely on reaction, i really am bad at prediction shots, but i have fast reflexes and use that instead, all players are different.

I just realized I didn't go into reflexes -_-

Exactly, everyone does stuff differently which is why I say take anyone's advice (including my own) with a grain of salt. It's either what works for them, or generic advice (mines a hybrid). You'll have to experiment with what works for you.
