WD Red 4TB GIVEAWAY!

LinusTech

I have 3 1 tb samsung hdd. One of them is my boot drive. I know ssd are better for boot drive but i dont have enough cash on me for a ssd.. I collect a lot of movies tv series videos thats why i need the space. Also i play a lot of games so i need the space. I am thinking of increasing my storage as all my drives are almost full.  Unfortunately as ssds are expensive in my country so i have to wait a bit more when the price goes down to buy a ssd. My laptop has a 640 gb hdd. its mostly used for study stuff as i am still a student

Another awesome giveaway linus

I am currently running a Samsung boot ssd for the speedy boot times. I love when my desktop boots in 5 seconds and my friend's takes several minutes. For mass storage i have 2 2TB western digital reds in raid 1 which gives me security that my data will be safe.

I run a single TB Seagate Hard drive that is just sat in the optical drive slot becasue I don't have any hard drive rails lol.

And i'm running that because I'm saving for a new CPU and don't want to spend hundred of pounds on an SSD just yet. I'll wait a few years until they are a lot larger and cheaper :P

1: Im currently rebuilding my computer due to have lost it in a fire :/ basing it on the new ivy-e 4930k and the new rampage IV black mobo. But my old config was as follows:

2 x corsair force series SSD 120gb in raid-0 for OS

3 x WD velociraptor 10k rpm 300gb in raid-0 for games

1 x WD blue 640gb for random stuff, backups of the OS partition, pictures etc.

I started with the velociraptors in raid-0 as OS disk but it was highly unstable so bought a pair of SSDs on a summersale and put the rapors as a game disk wich has worked flawlessly.

I have a samsung 830 128GB ssd in my system, thats it. I was originally going to buy another one for raid 0 but after about 3 months samsung stopped selling 830:s in 128GB(I live in sweden) .

So now im stuck, can't afford  new 250GB ssd or or a harddrive.  You could say i have had real bad luck.

If i got something out of this givaway it would be i life saver!

I am going to share this to swedens biggest website for computers and stuff.

I am running a SEAGATE barracuda 1TB, I bought it when I assembled my pc and was on a budget(the HDD was cheap and had good reviews on the net). The reason I got the 1TB is because I need enough storage for my porn :D. I also have an external 500MB WD "my passport" for backup and other data such as movies. My next upgrade would probably be a 120GB samsung 840 pro ssd for my boot drive and for using some programs and games.

Same as me,.. porn folders are so large,. gotta be HD hahaha

okay, so, i'm using 500GB internal storage on my laptop. and 150GB as an external storage. i would like the WDred because it would increase my gaming storage and important files. in my laptop, there is too much important files and so much risk of having to format it.

I have a laptop, and since there is only one had drive slot in the laptop, I have to take out the optical drive and replace and put my HDD in it, so that I could use my SSD as the boot drive. The SSD boot drive is the Kingston SSD Now V300.

I want to use the red drive in my NAS, since it has two slot, it will be pretty darn awesome to expand it with the WD Red.

Fantastic!!!!!!!

To be honest i have (x5) 160 GB Hitachi hard drives that i salvaged from old computers and I am too broke to buy new stuff. I do, however have a 1 Tb Seagate external desktop drive that i use for storage. For my rig, i have already spent the majority of my savings on the rest of the components. I somehow broke my first mother board and had to buy a new one (Sabertooth). I have not yet had the money to invest in water cooling, instead i also salvaged old fans from old computers to cool my system. The reason why i run my rig this way is mainly because i am tight on money, due to school expenses. I still need to upgrade my graphics, RAM, and monitor (burned part of my screen) and get proper peripherals (all i have for gaming is my Razer 2012 Mamba & Belkin n52te). Thank you for your time and generosity.

1x 128GB Crucial M4, because it's one of the most reliable SSD's

1x 1TB WD Green ( WD10EARS)), to store music, movies, etc, which don't really need high performance and the Green is a cheaper drive

1x 2TB Seagate (7200.14), to store games, VM's and other stuff I don't want on my SSD (browser cache, etc). I would have liked to buy a WD Black for this, but that one was too expensive in my opinion, so I went with the cheaper Seagate alternative.

i have a WD Black 2TB and that is it :P : going to get a NAS (corsair voyager Air), and a SSD to run my OS. Reason i bought my WD Black was that it had all the storage i needed, and i was looking for good performance, the Black delivered.

1. I have a desktop running with a 80 GB SATA 1 Western Digital HDD and a 500 GB Toshiba SATA 3. I wish I could get a WD HDD again because this one it's almost 7 years old with a lot of hours going on (bought in 2006) and it still really good and reliable.

I can't say many things about my hard disks because I don't have a really big storage, but a NAS is a really nice (and wet :D ) dream.

I have a boot SSD set up with most of my games on it. It's an OCZ Agility 3 240gb drive. The reason for this particular drive was price, I new I was getting an SSD when I built my new ans this drive was on a big sale when I was buying the parts for the system. I also have a Seagate 2tb Barracuda storage drive for all of my music, movies, and steam games. I also just bought a Seagate 3tb Expansion external drive for backup to replace the old 1tb Seagate Expansion drive that I had already filled up.

Currently I'm using a  7200rpm 1TB Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 HDD with three partitions, one for drivers, another for the common windows associated crap and another for steam and any other games I may have the pleasure of storing. As well as this I have a small 500gb external drive for anything I may need to backup and for applications and anything I may need on the go, Photoshop or Vegas 12 for example.

The reason I am using this configuration is due to a drive failure, my old 2TB WD Green lasted me a good 2 years before failing on me, it works to some degree but is totally unreliable and is due to fail at some point if I continued running it, so that for now is not in use and inoperable for the time being, possibly to be re-used if my current one fails. The hitachi drive offered a much better price to performance ratio at the time of purchase, around £40 at the time, it was a great deal so I didn't see why I shouldn't choose it over any WD drive, especially at my budget.

Reasons for not buying any better storage solution is due to price, plain and simple. My next hard drive will be either a WD Velociraptor or 4tb WD Red because of their incomparable reliability, performance and current prowess.

Thanks Linus, I'll also be posting a buttcrap more, don't let my post number scare you off.

I don't have a desktop but I have ASUS G75vx notebook with two hdd slots, so I run Samsung 840 120 GB (non pro) for my OS and for Adobe programs ( I'm a graphic designer) to give that extra speed  and 750GB HDD for media files, games and stuff. Also I use WD 1TB external drive for my stock materials ,backups and some media files on the go and a WD Blue  500GB drive in an external enclosure, as an archive for projects that are long over. It would be awesome to win these drive because I planing to build a NAS to centralise my storage and so that my family can also use it to save their stuff.

Currently using a 256GB ssd as my boot drive since I need the speed, not gonna raid 0 it because its too risky but I have a 1TB WD black as my "other stuff" drive where I save all my photos/videos/anything else in it. I have the 1TB externally with external drive mount, that way I can easily take/unplug the drive and plug it to my TV and watch movies

Internal:

Samsung 840 120GB for OS

WD green 1TB for data

WD green 1TB for steam games and user profiles (C:\users is linked onto this HDD)

WD green 2TB for anime-stuff #1

External (Sharkoon Rapidcases):

WD green 1.5TB for anime-stuff #2

WD green 1.5TB for anime-stuff #3

WD green 1TB for anime-stuff #4

[dunno the brand] 1TB for other random stuff

Why so many external HDDs?

Over time i got more harddrives and at that time i had a raid 5 array of 3 1TB wd greens for anime #1 and i wasnt able to put any more drives inside my case. and since i dont have a nas to put them in i use external Cases)

and why WD? over the time i got through some brands of HDDs (samsung, Seagate, Hitachi...) and i was let down by them every time (good thing i had backups)

Well i also had some WDs die on me but that was after over 20,000 Hours + they were running like 15 hours a day tightly packed in a RAID 5 array (not the best place for WD greens).

I was recently using a 1TB drive from seagate until it decided to stop working. I had to send it in for warrant but wont receive it for a while and have been using my 350GB laptop drive unti then. I have a huge game collection on steam (120+) plus some others. I was running out of space on the 1TB drive and had to delete stuff to install new things. A 4TB WD Red drive would help me out with some more storage or even start to setup a home NAS for all my photos, games etc.
