WD Red 4TB GIVEAWAY!

LinusTech

I build my computer i while back, I used linus build guide as help haha,

But i build a good computer with GTX760 EVGA GPU, With a 8GB Ram,

Asus motherboard, I have a 2x 40 gb disk, the problem was i didnt have enough for a 1T to buy, So i am running Windows 8 on

1 disk, Becease windows 8 is already 25 GB. haha, Then you have 15 GB left. So that stays a boot.

And the second disk is just like gaming or video saving. I wanted to put it as raid 1 but then i have really tiny capasity,

I like to have more capasity to put lots of my videos on it and lots of my games.

I currently have 3 small Samsung HDDs in my build for storage, and 1 for Steam games.

The Hard-drives suck because i found them free at my work when my Barracuda died maybe due to a bad PSU failure.

The 3 HDDs are total of 500 GBs, and the game HDD has 100 GB. it's pretty fast tho. :)

I'm using a 120 gb crucial m4 ssd as a boot drive, at the time it was cheap and fast. Also two WD blue 1TB HDD for storage in raid one for main storage and back-up. Two because of safety! And blues because 7200 rpm and cheap.

This is an excellent giveaway and thank you very much for it, although I think it would've been better if there were 8 winners of one drive each, so that... well... so that's there's more happy people! - but that's just my opinion.

Anyway, I currently run a 2TB RAID 0 which consists of 2 1TB Seagate drives as my boot and mass data (mostly games - a lot of them) drive (I partitioned it into a 100 GB boot drive and a 1.5 TB data drive). Apart from that, I also have a really old WD 500 GB for additional storage as well as running Linux. I also own 2 external WD drives - a 1TB MyBook and a 2TB MyBook, which I mostly use for movies and lossless music that I need to have portable.

In terms of why I have this setup, I know that it's a really bad thing to have a 2TB boot RAID which is also used for mass storage, but basically this was the only option I could afford at the time: I was only running on the 500 GB WD drive and I ran out of space. I didn't have enough money to buy an SSD, but I wanted a speedy OS and applications and I also needed more storage, so a specialist friend recommended this solution as well as what he thought to be the best bang for the buck drives at the time. I added on the external drives because I needed a way to play movies on my TV and I needed my music to be portable for parties, road tripping etc. That's about it. I'm hoping to upgrade from the RAID 0 as soon as possible, probably either through getting 2 more drives and creating a RAID 10/ 1+0, or through getting an ssd.

I have a desktop PC. I run a 80GB Intel SSD for my OS.

As well as a 1TB Samsung Spinpoint (not WD I know :P) and a 500GB WD Caviar Blue for storage, videos, and games.

I use my 1TB for my games and the 500GB for videos and my duel boot for linux.

I love WD's great warranty's and almost always lean towards a WD storage device. Currently all my hard drives are at capacity.

hRMOKyI.png

(500GB not shown because it is for Linux currently, was a fraps drive previously).

All my storage is kept in my system in a Haf 932. I also have an external WD My Book 500GB to which I have lost the plug :( (I'll find it eventually).

I'm always low on storage and I haven't done anything to protect my self from data lose. I should have a raid array or some sort of protection in that way but I currently don't.

Currently running a 64GB SSD as my main boot drive since it allows me to have quicker boot up times, generally make my operating system run snappier overall and a game I'm playing. Use a 1TB 7200rpm drive for my music and steam games. 2TB drive for raw storage of videos and backups.

I'm looking to get an SSD because that way my comp will boot up much faster and run the games i'm mostly into at the moment run better.

I've been stuck using a 1TB WD Green drive in my desktop.  It's what came with it (it started life as a pre-built HP back in 2010), and so far any money I've put towards upgrading it has gone to other components such as the case, video card, PSU and soundcard.  In my laptop though I was using a 250GB Toshiba drive for a while before it decided to not work, and replaced it with a 500GB WD Black for more storage and speed.  And because it was about $5 more than a 250GB 5400RPM drive.

I run a single ssd for speed. Kingston 90gb but would have loved a bigger one but didnt have the budget when I bought it (student back then). Also Seagate barracude 1tb hdd for mass storage for photos and movies. And at home a 2tb NAS my dad bought for backup and sharing of files also to smartphones and tablets but that didnt costs me :D!

I would love that hdd to upgrade the NAS or add a extra hdd to my system because I already have so many upgrade plans my budget is prob out :P (new gpu, new ram, ...)

at the moment i am building a computer system since my grandparents gave me some money as an early Christmas present. Unfortunately the budget hasn't stretched to high quality and high capacity drives so unfortunately the build have to do with an old IDE Hard drive pulled out of a computer in my attic.

I'm currently running my gaming pc on a ntfs 150g hdd and it is a bit old, so my system boot a little bit slow. I'm using it because a made a gaming pc, but was not able to afford a new hdd and had to use my old one. And my games is on a external 1TB hdd to not make my system boot any slower.

I am running a Seagate Constellation 7200rpm 250GB drive as a boot drive for my server because I already had it sitting around.  I am running 2 2TB 7200rpm Seagate Barracudas in RAID 1 because they were on sale and I couldn't pass them up.  This is all in my home server which doubles as media server (plex) and file server.  I could really use more storage!

I have a single 2TB drive for storing game backups and all of my files. I bought that harddrive right before the floods that have been meaning to upgrade to a RAID 1 setup but the prices have been a bit high ( they have dropped since ). The reason why I run it like this is because mechanical storage is cheap and for the most part reliable.

Yow,

My configuration:

I run a Intel 180GB SSD 330 Series (SATA-600, 2.5")  as a boot drive reasons listed below:

Speed of course and the pricing was cheap enough for me to afford a 180Gb drive.

I do not like the <100Gb drives because some main programs fast take up the space, and I don't know how it is with ssd's but a full drive slows down the system way to much.

I run 2 * Western Digital 2TB Red:

* Number 1 I use for mass storage and back-up: Content consisting of Movies, Music, Pictures, Back-up's

* Number 2 I use for 4 reasons:

*Reason 1: My Virtual Hard drives for my servers I'm running

*Reason 2: Ghost-images of clean installs (what for is explained a bit later)

*Reason 3: To place all windows folders in like My Documents, My Videos, Desktop, and all that other good stuff microsoft has going on.

*Reason 4: My different workspaces for TFS, My workspace for Xilinx, well all programs that require a base directory to put projects on

Next to that I run several kinds of external storage units:

*I use a 2.5"/3.5" docking station for following reasons:

*Reason 1:  If ppl ask to format their pc's and what not, I generally don't want to work on multiple pc's at once.

So I format the disk through the docking station, make partitions on it give the volumes names while continuing with what ever I want to do for myself.

After everything is formated you just put it back, install the operating system they desire install drivers, basic programs (Btw thx for the NiNite tip Linus) and take a ghost-image.

Next time someone comes with a Hp/Dell/ ... I usually will have a ghost ready so I don't need their pc anymore but just their harddrive.

*Reason 2: Well, obviously if ppl want a back-up of their system I don't enjoy having 2 Bootable Windows drives in my pc I have to select drives so with this solutions this is fixed.

*I have several hard-drives that I use to play my movies on the TV, take projects to work, ...

*Finally I have several usb drives for what ever you can think of, giving pictures to friends, printing something at a printing office, ...

Okay that wasn't really my last thing of storage I also run a RAMdisk just to play around with the idea not really something I use as a reliable storage device.

So this is my complete configuration I think and the reasons why. So I already have plenty of storage, but my case is far from full and could use a dedicated drive for my VM's.

Slymie is leaving, peace out.

I have a OCZ Agility 3 SSD for my operating system, and 1TB WD Black for storage. I do have a few old parts lying around I'd like to use as a backup server, but can't afford any drives at the moment.
