EGO Engine 4.0 will support Direct3D 12_1 features as well, says Codemasters

Following the reveal that Just Cause 3 does employ the highest subset of DX12 features -- namely CR and ROV as required by Feature Level 12_1 spec, popular game developer CodeMasters also joined the parade with their latest iteration of the EGO Engine.

 

“Codemasters present a post-mortem on their new rendering engine used for F1 2015 detailing how they balanced the apparently opposing goals optimizing for mainstream processor graphics, high end multi-core and DX12. The F1 2015 engine is Codemasters’ first to target the eighth generation of consoles and PC’s with a new engine architecture designed from scratch to distribute the games workload across many cores making it a great candidate for DX12 and utilise the processing power of high end PC’s. This session will show the enhanced the visuals created using a threaded CPU based particle system without increased the GPU demands and also cover the changes made to the engine while moving from DX11 to DX12. We will also discuss the graphics effects added using the new DX12 features Raster Ordered Views (AVSM and Decal Blending) and Conservative Rasterization (Voxel based ray tracing) adding even greater realism to the F1 world.”

Naturally, we should expect future releases of some of the most popular racing titles, based on EGO Engine 4.0, to include enhanced visuals and boosted performance on certain supported hardware.

Hmm im a little on edge about their latest engine. Being close friends to one of the devs i heard a lot about how much it has drove them up the wall. F1 2015 was a case & point. Hope they can sort it out. Its one hell of an engine but its not easy to tame.

come on codemasters release a DX12 update for any dirt or grid game, or reboot the TOCA series with DX12.

This is great news. While driving games aren't always the hardest to run, I really want a decent F1 2016 game with VR support. This could help keep the frame rates high. Also it means in the 2d world, they can push better effects like full stands of crowds that don't just look like the copy and paste Fifa crowds.

Dirt Rally has that genre covered well tbh.

Do you have a source for that statement? The majority of GCN architecture was made yards before any details of DX12 ever came to light.

Kepler also doesn't support DX12_1 afaik.

I would be extremely surprised if Polaris didn't have full DX12 support at all levels.

But we shall see.
