Posted January 16, 2016 I am looking to find a way to increase my FPS on the games I play, mainly when I am in a massive group in MMO's. Here is my setup: i5-3570k overclocked to 4.283 GHZ Asus P8-Z77-V motherboard 650W Modular power supply Nvidia gtx-660ti 16 gigs of DDR3 running at 815.9 MHZ DRAM frequency 2x128 GB SSD's running on raid 0 Windows 10 (not sure if this matters) I run my games on 1440 resolution on Ultra I see 60-120 FPS when idle in game. When I am in a massive raiding group my frames drop considerably and range anywhere from 15-45 fps depending on the fight and how many people are in group. I am looking for advice on what to upgrade first. Is my i5 holding me back? My GPU? I am open to the idea of getting a new processor all together which means I most likely will have to upgrade the MB and memory, especially if it means not having to upgrade anything more in the future. Thanks!
Posted January 16, 2016 It's definitely the GPU You could check your GPU and CPU usage to prove it. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/451339-help-me-find-him/

Thanks! Which MMO are you playing? is it only during raids? Normally its the CPU in MMORPGs. atleast when testing with TERA, GW2, BnS, C9,and TESO. Even with my 4690k overclocked to 4.8 i will still have massive frame drops on my Fury X. Just the nature of a meh game engine. Most of the time the CPU isnt even utilized properly. That being said games like Black desert and FFXIV have shown good scaling with GPU. with black desert handling CF like a champ! Whats the fix? a newer gen CPU. It does help, but isnt gonna be that much either. esp in GW2 where theres just too many shits going on during world bosses. 4 core 8 threads doesnt seem to do much either. Just higher clocked cores work. easiest is just to limit the number of characters on the map a little. or set LOD distance.
 Thanks! It's the GPU if anything. Your CPU should not be bottlenecking your graphics card at all. • OS: Windows 10/10 Pro • SSD: Samsung 256GB 850 Evo Series * • HDD: Seagate 1TB • GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING X (SLI) • CPU: i7-4790K OC 4.7GHz Quad-Core Processor • Case: NZXT H440 (Black/Red) • PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W • RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory • Mobo: MSI Gaming
 Thanks! well one of the easiest ways to tell is while playing the game open the task manager and whatever gpu program you use. afterburner, etc and see which is maxing out, your gpu or cpu. though its probably your gpu Tsubasa (The 7680x1440 beast): CPU: Intel i7 8086k | Cooler: Fully Custom Rigid Loop | MOBO: Asus Z370-I ITX | GPU: Nvidia Titan Xp Star Wars | RAM: 32Gb 2x16gb Gskill Trident Z RGB | SSD: Samsung 1TB 970 Evo Nvme, 2TB Micron Sata SSD | Case: Fractal Design Nano S | PSU: Corsair SF600 With Full custom cables |
