Starting youtube channel

Budget is around 600 dollars in total.  Need to get a solid DSLR, lighting kit, Microphone/stand/pop filter, and tripod.  I would prefer something with some form of wifi on the camera too, so I can manage the video controls from a tablet.

It doesn't matter what type, but if you put in the necessary time and effort in, you'll eventually have a large number of subscribers. Even Linus had to work his ass for the 2+ million subscribers he has now for several years since starting LinusTechTips.

It does matter though, suggestions for someone starting a gaming channel would be quite a bit different than suggestions for someone starting a vlogging channel, or a music channel, etc..

Well yeah to a certain degree. If he's doing that type of channel or so, then that's totally reasonable as those types of channels are not that big compared to gaming and tech channels. I even plan on starting a YouTube channel in the future consisting of gaming, tech, gaming and tech news, and software tutorials (Like 3ds Max or CryEngine tutorials), and some vlogs about some events and also giving insight to what goes on behind the scenes in the video game industry on solely the development of games.

 

Remember to keep you audience engaged, that is what I like about the smaller channels. Good Luck!

Start off small. Grab a phone case that has threading to accept a small gorillapod/tripod. And just use your phone to shoot videos with. This will be a good stepping stone to see if you really want to get into video production.

 

Will teach you light editing and such as well. Use what you've already got, and see what you can make of it.

Linus is a great example. Look at how low-production his early videos were. And compare it to the videos that they produce today.

As far as what I have got, I don't have a smart phone with a decent camera.  I am investing in this gear, and I will not be giving up. The type of channel is a tech channel, to include a weekly podcast. I will be unboxing and reviewing technology of all forms.
