So I recently did a 1.5k build

What software? A laptop is probably going to be your best bet

your mother doesn't need anything more than an i3-6100 for work use

 

an h170 board is more than enough. she could even get away with using a b150 or an h110, but there are some nicer features on the h170 boards these days
