pc build help

Greetings, I have a couple of questions about my pc build that has already been built.

First of all these are my parts:

motherboard - ASRock 970FX EXTREME4

cpu - AMD FX-8350 Black Edition (cooler Hyper 212 EVO)

gpu - ASUS Nvidia GTX 970 Strix

ram - HyperX 8GB 1866mhz (2x - 4GB)

psu - EVGA SuperNOVA G2 650W

hdd- Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB

case - Fractal Desing Define R5 Black Pearl

I am a little disappointed with the performance on gaming and I do have my doubts about the cpu. Nothing is overclocked and no part is overheating. I'm not expecting my first pc build to have zero problems.

Is there a possible bottleneck? Is the FX-8350 just not good enough for gaming? Is it something else?

I am fully aware that this is not the most optimal build one could build but I had limited money at the moment. I'm asking that is it recommended to replace some of these parts for others, and If yes then what parts.

I have attached a file showing cpu temperatures just in case if something is wrong. I had trouble keeping the temperature down before buying a new cooler for the cpu which is Hyper 212 EVO.

Depends really. What games are looking at playing and at what settings? I still love AMD and their CPUs are modest for most games. My FX-6300 was overclocked at 4.5GHz and it was good for what it was but when it comes to games like ARMA and DayZ then that's when you see it fall.

what exactly is the problem that bothers you?

is some game not performing good enough?

since you have the new cooler, it would be advised for you to overclock that buldozer

Yeah, the cpu is the problem. Depending on the game, it won't be able to maintain 60 fps. You could try overclocking the cpu, that will help, but it won't fix the problem.

Upgrading to an i5 or i7 (or a xeon 1231 v3) would do the trick if you can afford a new mobo and cpu.

My rig:

I mostly play older titles like Skyrim (modded), Borderlands 2. I cannot max out borderlands 2 without dropping under 60 fps (around 40 - 50).

FX cpus are modest for an enjoyable experience but if you want consistency in frames then go with intel.

Its a CPU bottleneck. I had the same problem with my FX6300.

Overclocking wont have any negative consequences? I have never really done that.

Just make sure you don't go crazy with the volts. My 6300 was @ 4.5GHz with 1.41 volts and it was watercooled

Thank you for the fast replies. Ill try overclocking. What intel motherboard and intel cpu are you suggesting? around 500e for both.

cuz HWMonitor doesn't know what it's reading

You could go with a i5 but if it were me I'd go with i7

I would not advise attempting to OC an FX-8/9 chip on that board. The ASRock 970FX EXTREME4 only has a 4+1 VRM phase design. What you are experiencing is more likely thermal throttling on the VRM's than a significant CPU bottleneck (although there certainly will be one in some scenarios).

If you're thinking about moving to Intel at this point, buying a new MOBO would be ill advised, but it would be a good idea to get some airflow over those VRM's. Decent explanation with your exact board http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/276742-cpu-thermal-throttle/

I totally forgot about his mobo :P but yeah don't do it. Need a better mobo to do that.

Yeah, I have heard about that. Probably best to leave the cpu as it is. Not sure about the thermal throttling on the VRMs. Ill check it out.

I was going to say the "AUXTIN" readout on HWMonitor would indicate that it is the VRM's, but the minimum temperature is so low, and temp reporting for AMD systems is so bad, unless your ambients are below 14C it would be an impossible reading. Although, I guess even with a 10-15C margin of error, it's still really bad to have VRM's that hot.
