zeusualsuspect

Yup, you read that right.. Both Speccy and MSI Afterburner tell me that my ATI AMD Radeon HD 8500M temperature is 511 °C. So.. My question is: what the hell is going on?

Your computer would be on fire.

Your graphics card is at 511C as much as one of my motherboards is at -127C.

Sig under construction.

Broken sensor, nothing else.

If it was really 500, I'm pretty sure it would be dead in 1 minute or all your other parts would be baked (That's a higher temp then what my oven can achieve!).

Might add this later...

Its not a joke, it's the fact that amd cards are hotter, but they give better performance for their price. Ok? Mr. fanboy?

Your laptop is on fire, you should probably put it out so the fire doesn't spread. jk, AMD's mobiles drivers are a bit screwy and will give "odd" readings. Open GPU-Z, I guarantee most of the readings are wrong.

So I tried running a game to see if the temperature will change and it did. So the temperature is now at 48 °C so that's good.

But why do I only see the correct temperature when I run a game? If it was a sensor problem wouldn't be at 511 °C all the time?

All 2^n +/- 1 (n is an integer) numbers re usually error codes that are not recognices by the software and are converted to a temperatre nevertheless.

511C? 'Normal Tempereature' 'XDDD' not a joke.... riight. Anyways, with the 300 series there is TINY amounts of difference, almost none at all. Stop banking on outdated cards, you're as bad as the people that still claim Nvidia have amazing drivers.

My AMD card reads around 55,168°C on Uniengine Valley benches, so I feel your pain. Just crack an egg on it and game on!

Lets do some simple math.

511°C is almost 1/10 of the suns temperature witch is 5,505°C.

Fun facts:

327.5 °C is the Temperature of which lead melts.

231.9 °C is the Temperature of which tin melts.

Aluminum Alloy 463°C - 671°C
