Samsung 850 Evo vs Samsung 850 Pro, what to get

Go to solution Solved by NumLock21,

Over the weekend the Samsung 850 Evo 250GB has gone up to $100 and the 850 Pro 128GB went up to $95 :\

And so I waited and it pay off. The Samsung 850 Pro 256GB dropped $20 bucks from $140 down to $120.

So, Samsung 850 EVO 250GB for $100 vs Samsung 850 Pro 256GB for $120. With the 10 year warranty, and longer endurance, I spend that extra $20 and got myself the 850 Pro 256GB.

Now the 850 Evo 250GB has dropped back down to $90...

So my main ssd on my desktop (Intel 330 120GB) is dying and windows is constantly nagging me to change the drive or else I'll loose all of my stuffs. I'm currently looking at some Samsung 850 series in both the Evo and Pro line up. Checked online a few days ago and both drive cost the same price of $90 (rounded off). Here are the 2 Samsung SSD drives I'm looking at

Samsung 850 Evo

Capacity: 250GB

Controller: ARM Cortex R4 (MGX)

Cores: 2 @ 550MHz

Endurance: 75TB

Warranty: 5 Years

Price: $90

Samsung 850 Pro

Capacity: 128GB

Conroller: ARM Cortex R4 (MEX)

Cores 3 @ 400MHz

Endurance: 150TB

Warranty: 10 Years

Price: $90

Because my current SSD is some how is failing right when the warranty is over, has me leaning towards the Samsung 850 Pro, due to its 10 year warranty, means I'm guarantee the driver will last 10 years. But the Evo has a larger capacity. So right now I'm not sure which one to get, help.

Thanks!

Performance on the 850 EVO is great, on par with the 850 Pro (maybe slightly worse) and the extra capacity will be well worth it. I have the EVO 250GB and it's really good. I recommend the EVO.

unless youre a content creator and writing hundreds of GB per day to the SSD, the EVO will last far longer than 10 years

at this point where the drives are both really good quality, get the larger one, you will need it
