Hi guys ! I have a gtx 980 , and i'm thinking about getting a second gtx 980. Got 32gb of ddr4 ram , i7 6700k cpu and a 750w psu ( which is close to the limit , but works ) . My question is this : is it worth it ? Let's say i'll keep those cards for around 2 years ( at max ) . Won't go over 1080p resolution . Will i get huge fps fluctuations ?Will i reach the VRAM limit in some games ?If that is the case , would it be better to sell my current 980 and get a 980ti ? Thanks for your time.

For 1080p, A single 980 is already a overkill. Don't get another.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

I'm sure you can max pretty much every single AAA game at 1080p60fps. Unless you're going for 144Hz I don't see the point. About FPS fluctuations, you shouldn't have any, I didn't with my 660ti SLI setup that I had a while back.

A GTX 980 will max almost anything at 1080p. It's not worth the upgrade for 1080P.

Unless you went 1080p 144Hz.

Other then that keep the 980 until Pascal or something like that.

Thanks for those , but let's just consider i want to go in every game FULL graphics with x8 msaa ( and they dip down even to 40s like this with my current setup , for example , crysis 3 and gta 5) , so i'll either go for a second 980 or a 980ti. Will the SLI have fps hitches , will it be enough VRAM for 2017 1080p? Those are my current questions . Thanks

If you can deal with it, I would get a 970 till pascal comes out. That's what I am doing and the reason I'm not getting the 980. I'm going to get the 980 Ti tier version of the pascal card though. Of course after the controversy lol. I'm sure there's going to be something wrong with them when they first come out (a la the 970 3.5gb of VRAM lol)

Hitting 4g of VRAM is almost impossible at 1080p. I've set out to do it on purpose and couldn't do it. People make much more of a fuss over VRAM than they should. Games see your available VRAM and use it, the extent of which is dictated by your available VRAM.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Just lower the graphics settings, you don't need maximum graphics for an enjoyable experience. You won't be saying, "look at that jagged edge".

In this situation, wait for Pascal.

Pretty sure, there are no games that use more than 4GB of memory at 1080P. - Shadow of Mordor maybe, but that's one game.

Ok , thanks for all the opinions guys , but let's pretend this : Imagine i'm one of those spoiled kids that can't wait for their birthday present , and also can't keep money without spending it . Real story , once i've put my mind to something , as stupid as it might be , i'm not letting it down. Should i go for two 980's or sell my 980 and get a 980ti ? Can't wait for Pascal , at least 5 months is quite alot of waiting time.

A question and an answer.

What 980 do you have?

Yes, go for it. Don't spend your life waiting, live.

Got a good laugh over this one . I have a 20th anniversary gold edition 980 from asus. So , if you say a second 980 is worth , I still remain with this question ( and probably only 980 sli users can answer ) : will games stutter , or will I experience significant random drops ?

Gold edition, pimp.

Multiple GPU configurations are not for the faint of heart. I had a crossfire set up and hated it. So my advice is sell the 980 and get a 980ti. But hopefully someone with better luck with multiple GPUs can weigh in.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
