I5 4690K or I7 4790K

So I want to upgrade my PC, realised X99 is just too much :/

Which would you suggest, the I5 or the I7?

I have around £400 to spend and would like at least 16GB RAM and will reuse the components I can from my current system.

Also do you carry any form of editing/streaming or this is mainly a gaming rig?

i7 is much faster in multi-threaded workloads, I speak from experience. The i5 is literally the same CPU just without hyperthreading. In gaming there will be flat 0 difference between the two.

Current Build: Core i7 4790k @ 4.6, Asus Maximus VII Hero, Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400mhz 8gb (2x4gb), GTX 980ti, NZXT Kraken X61, Fractal Define R5  EVGA Supernova B2 850w, Some 300gb hard drive.

8GB isn't enough for me for some reason :/ Windows gives me low memory even when nothing is running but a game and steam...

depending on your needs i'd say only for gaming the i5 should be good

if you video edit/render or other content creating things you're better with the i7

8gb ram are ok but 8 more wouldnt be bad

I have not unfortunately, I bought a second 3TB WD Red to check if it was a page file issue and it did not fix it xD

But it really shouldn't you sure you don't have any inefficient process eating up your RAM

If you can afford the 4790k then get it, it's an amazing cpu and worth every cent. If you can't quite afford it the 4690k is pretty awesome too.

4690k will perform within 1-2 FPS of the 4790k in every game except those that are heavily CPU dependent or those that can take advantage of hyperthreading. Just make sure to OC it to 4790k speeds and you're good to go.

I hohnestly don't know what causes it :/ I've looked and tried every fix I found...what's worse is when the message pops up it tabs out of the game and causes a black screen forcing me to end the process xD

I literally do nothing, enter the game play a bit and see the RAM creeping up and page file becomes 16GB or more :/

That's not at all normal. You gotta have some kind of malware on your system.

No Malware, regularly do virus scans :/

Here's my RAM usage running a game;

You have malware if you're getting 16GB filled in your swap every time you start a game.

Isn't that just due to a much higher clock speed?

NO!!! It's due to hyperthreading, which a lot of NEW releases are able to use.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
