i know this is mostly a PC gaming forum for i am a all around gamer. just watched the ps4 announcements that sony made and wanted to hear your thoughts on it

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

ps4 is discussion is relevant throughout this forum. they all exist in the same ecosystem and influence eachother. I'm guessing they're waiting for E3 to announce 4K format and the 4K optical disc format.

demand for 4K is very light at the moment. we need a console to create demand for 4K

I am excited by some of the features, but it worries me how little detail has been revealed on the hardware side. The only part I can give a big thumbs up to is the 8GB or GDDR5 RAM. I have almost no doubt that the PS4 will not be 4K ready, I just don't see it. The GPU is rumoured to be based on a 7800 series AMD card; no way can that push 4 times as many pixels as 1080p at good frame rates. I also think Sony will stick with the Blu-ray format for optical media. I was very disappointed that Sony didn't show the physical PS4 hardware though, and I know many people are feeling a little bit cheated by the press conference.

I think they didn't go into detail about hardware because it hasn't been chosen yet, they are still working on what they are going to put in it. An AMD 7800 series card definitely supports 4k but we'll have to wait until E3 to see what the PS4 is packing.

I'm a little disappointed about the shape of the controller but I wasn't expecting them to change it much. I wish they had gone into detail about the camera functionality with the controller; they touched upon it but didn't explain anything about it.

The cloud functionality from Gaikai sounds pretty great and direct streaming to Ustream should be good.

Capture cards are no longer needed as you can upload all gameplay directly through the console using the share button on the controller.

I'm not sure how useful the second screen functionality will be. Using the Playstation App you can turn a smartphone into a second screen to act as a mini map or see from a friends perspective in-game. Although they were talking about how people can jump into your game or give you items - not sure how this will work.

The 'suspend mode' should be good so you can pick up a game exactly where you left off without having to boot the system up or wait for games to load.

I'm really excited about the games they showed - Killzone and Watchdogs especially.

there is still time till E3. sony is a movie company AAANNNNDDD TV/camera company. it would be retarded to not use this as a way to push demand for 4K
Agreed, I just don't see how a midrange AMD Gpu can push the pixels under gaming load.

They were displaying the facial movements incorporated with the PS4, the graphical detail is just a bonus ;)

The main problem I have with the PS4 is that now all the console heads think consoles are more powerful than PC's. Some of my friends were saying that it was going to be more powerful then any computer because it has two "supercomputers" inside it...

Other then that I'm glad to see they are actually making progress in catching up with the PC. :)

AMD posted a status on their facebookt saying that they're using an AMD APU.

I actually laughed... I know that feel. Kid at my school was telling me about how the ps3 is so advanced that they use it for military computing.......

I just can't believe that they announced a console that they haven't even come up with a design for. The fact that they didn't even make renders of the thing means that this event was just to boost stock prices and shift focus toward Sony before the next Xbox is announced. It's just silly that a product was announced and you can't even see it.

I couldn't agree with you any more andrews013, Crysis the first one, in 2007 had better facial graphics then the ps4 does. I really do laugh at console gamers when they say the graphics on the ps2, ps3 and now ps4 are so great lol, lol. When will console owners realize that us pc gamers spend $1500-$5000 for our gaming rigs for a reason :). Console gamers need to stop thanking they are going to get the latest and greatest console that will smash a PC for $500 bucks or less LOL.

I think we really should stop masturbating about graphisms and think about animations and interactions. Yeah Crysis is beautiful but when you throw something in the water, you can see 2 assets of moving waters and that's it. Same with TPS, yeah your character looks good but he slide on the floor or walk like a robot (look at the videos of StarCitizen, it's ridiculous).

PS4 facial video , you can see facial expression:

PC, video of a lifeless face:

Anyway, it's the usual propaganda from a video game company. We won't see this quality of graphics in a long time.

Have you seen the face recognition in LA:Noire? They look kinda like that, and you can't judge the performance on a single animation of one face, it can't be compared to "upcoming titles" when the entire processing power is used on only one face
