I'd rather get 2 Western Digital External HDD. Although it will cost more, at least I don't have to worry about it failing after 2 months.

Bad experience with Seagate and never again will I buy storage products from them.

external drives are almost always 5400rpm, it's not a big deal when it's not inside your machine and programs don't run off of it.

and yet it clearly states on the page that it's 7200rpm.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

K.... I'll just leave this here...

https://www.dabs.com/products/toshiba-5tb-canvio-usb-3-0-3-5--desktop-hard-drive--black--hdwc250ek3j1-9D68.html?q=toshiba%20canvio%205tb&src=16

Toshiba 5TB Canvio Desk

£102.98

[Mine] Uses a Toshiba MD04ACA500

I wouldn't get external 3.5" drives unless you're prepared to rip them out of their enclosure though... A lot enclosures are fanless, the result is a HDD that cooks itself and dies very quickly. Mine would reach 60C+ with ease. No doubt that this would happen with other fanless enclosures as well.

Same here, I've had three Seagate drives in my computer. All of them failed within 6 months. I then opted for WD Red drives as they are reliable to run and I have been running these for a couple of years with no issues what so ever.

I've completely stopped looking for or recommending Seagate as I've lost a lot of data from them crashing (Both backup drives and internal drives from Seagate has failed on me)

Spoiler

System:

i5 3570k @ 4.4 GHz, MSI Z77A-G43, Dominator Platinum 1600MHz 16GB (2x8GB), EVGA GTX 980ti 6GB, CM HAF XM, Samsung 850 Pro 256GB + Some WD Red HDD, Corsair RM850 80+ Gold, Asus Xonar Essence STX, Windows 10 Pro 64bit

I just purchased the 2015 edition a few days ago from BestBuy. It was on sale for $159.99 CAD. Don't know if the sale is still on though.

It's a shame that it's a Seagate.

I'd never buy one of their drives, especially the higher capacity ones.

I've been burned more than three times. I'm staying away from them forever.
