Should I get Star Citizen?

cortexcortex
Go to solution Solved by Napper198,

Thanks for all the answers. What I think I'm going to do is that I'll most likely be buying the M50 ship, as a start.

The M50 is a nice ship to fly around and definitely a good racer, however because of it's tuning towards racing it has no cargohold and with it's fixed size 1 weapons you'll have a hard time killing something.

To start out I'd suggest you're buying a starter package with a Mustang Alpha. It's cheap, can carry a cargo box, has decent speed and maneuverability and it's weapons are mounted on a turret which lets them follow your courser to make aiming a lot easier with mouse and keyboard.

From there you can always upgrade via Cross Chassis Upgrade, if you're willing to contribute towards development. However this is not neccescary as you'll be able to purchase all ships within the game with game credits once Star Citizen enters beta phase.

If you're willing to put in some time you are also able to earn REC which you can use to rent different equipment and/or ships to test them out without committing.

Sometimes CIG also lends out ships for free to get community feedback.

Last but not least, the resident LTT Conglomerate is here to help so you can borrow any flyable ship from one of the community members and take it for a spin. You just need to ask.

Just a little primer for Star Citizen fist: It's still in Alpha stage so expect stuff to not work properly and game crashes. Patch 2.0 is about as stable as 1. week GTA V on PC and 2.1 seems to be even better, but just keep that in mind.

So, I was wondering;

I have an some extra money laying down, waiting to be used, and I was wondering if I should get Star Citizen now or wait a bit further. I'm listening to your opinions! If I were to get the game, which ship would you recommend? I don't mind using up to $500, no more than that, since I would find that a waste of money (in my opinion). I also wouldn't want using all those $500 if I could get something similar for less price :P. I just need a nice game which I can spend some time on.

Thanks, as always.

I couldn't fault getting a ship to try it out. I dont know if I would jump straight into a big ship both because most of them are not fly ready yet and also because you may not like the game. (WARNING) You are about to get flamed by people that think SC is a scam when you say $500.

Thanks for the answer. I'm not planning to spend $500, it's just my personal limit. CS:GO should also be a scam then (knives knives knives $100000). Which would you recommend getting? I was just looking into the M50.

regardless of how much you want to spend, right now star citizen is not in a state in which you buy it and spend some time on like a normal game to buy to play. its in its early stages and its very barebones, the most I've gotten is just playing the basic tutorials, other than that, there isnt much at all.

is a scam when you say $500.

$500 for 1 game is (and hopefully always will be) a scam.

I would not touch star citizen until it is finished, if nothing else I suspect you will have a better experience with the finished product, some games are nice to watch expand and grow through it's development. but a finished game means you still have that initial punch, rather than having it petered out over years of gradual development.

Personally, I think you should get one of the starter packs. Fly it for a bit, see how you like the game.

With the recent addition of alpha 2.0, and soon to be implemented 2.1, now would be a great time to join.

Then if you feel like its something for you, you can jump into one of the constellations (cost something under $200, cant remember exactly how much), I would recommend the andromeda at the moment. The constellation is the biggest flyable ship at the moment (albeit a bit [quite a bit] buggy), and is a lot of fun to dink around with friends, seeing how its crewed by multiple people.

Feel free to join the discord server linked in my sig, we're nice people :P

Or what you could do is buy me the cheapest ship and then buy yourself whatever you can and then we'll play together

+1, or maybe even something a bit bigger than a starter but probably nothing more than $150. Sure it isnt done but I think there is still enough to have a bit of fun in.

Did you know this forum has an unofficial/official Star Citizen group? Head over to our organization's page, numerous forum threads or our LTTC Discord Server to find out more.
