Technically yes, but I don't think ASIC quality necessarily dictates what kind of overclock you can achieve(though through our current definition, it should).

Can I use my ASIC score to sell my reference GTX 970 for more money?

-PIC-

ASIC doesn't dictate a high overclock if your trying to sell it like that, there are other factors like silicon quality during manufacturing that can affect it. I personally have a 80.7% on my G1 970 but it's not an amazing overclocker, fairly average for a G1 GPU.

Hmm not so sure about that.

There has been a link between high ASIC cards clocking better than lower ones, I agree it isn't everything but there is a link.

and valley does this:

i recycled the screenshot from my test between the driver i used for the biggest part of 2015, and the latest one.

NICE!!! My score is crippled by Valley only using one of my cores and AMD has weaker single core performance, so my 970 flops to 70% on scene 6 and 2 others drop gpu usage too.

EVGA seems to think asic quality is worth binning for the kingpin. The 80%+ charges $200 more.

Yeah that kick started a massive discussion about ASIC and overclocking expectations, I watched Jayztwocents talk about it and thought it didn't matter but there is a link between ASIC and overclocking limits from what I've seen on the 970's at least.

well, i did a spin with extreme HD preset.

cba to upload a screenshot so here we go:

fps: 55.9

score: 2338

min fps: 26.1

max fps: 104.3

i guess that makes a bit more sense for a non-oc card xD

Can you not overclock it?

i legitimately do not care about overclocking at this point.

every game in my library reaches the framerate i want, at the resolution i want, with the settings i want, with less than 90% gpu load.

i have this friend that got his price/performance a bit too high on his list, and i'm considering underclocking my 4790k by 100MHz just to piss him the hell off.

i'll give overclocking a shot once i cannot get the performance i need out my parts anymore. but for now, its only extra heat, extra power usage, and extra wear on my expensive parts.

well, i OC'd my raspberry pi a bit, its amazing how much extra you get out of those things with even a small crappy heatsink on them.

i havent bothered with going past 1GHz on the arm cores (thats there more for an inside joke than for needing it) and a small increase on gpu and dram.

i think i got unlucky on the dram on my pi tho, it doesnt seem to like extra speed very much.

marketing at its best: i called it the "pimodore 1G" because its pretty similarly shaped to a commodore 64, and it has 1 gigabyte of ram, and runs at 1 gigahertz.

i really need to get a decent power supply solution going for it tho...

setDHxR.png?1

That´s not a high ASIC at all... infact it is so low that you could consider it already for water cooling. There are roughly 3 brackets of cooling out there. A lower ASIC doesn´t mean necessarily you´ve got a bad card. Making more money out of an ASIC? If you had a GTX980Ti classified, then maybe but a GTX970 isn´t interesting enough for most people that do serious OCing. Now don´t get me wrong the GTX970 is a good card, I put one in my girl friend´s PC and she´s super happy with it.

And ASIC is a mere indicator for a chip but there´s much more when it comes ot OCing, especially Maxwell cards.

Decided to OC again after seeing my godly ASIC score :P (I hadn't bothered since reinstalling windows last week but I figure I might as well try, I'm up 110 on core so far)

@Swndlr get shrekt m9 :P

EDIT: So I've got it up to +200 and seen basically no improvement in Valley :/

Another sample is @Vellinious with 80.8% ASIC and will run Firestrike and Heaven at 1633 / 2176. so that's two results, @Peter Hammond has some good clocks too, what ASIC I'm not sure however. Would you weigh in too?
