seeing we still havent quite mastered PS2 emulation, and PS2 emulation being quite resource intensive...

i doubt PS3 will be for any time soon.

EDIT: should add, at this point PS1 emulation is a problem, because modern hardware is too powerful...

i'd rather have them come together for an update (fork) to epsxe than emulating a platform that is out of performance reach anyways.

What are you talking about ? Tons of games are playable on pcsx2 sure not all of them but 90 percent of them can be played and that is a good thing. Its amazing what a small team did within a couple of years. Epcxe is old and o doubt many people are playing ps1 games. But that again can play a good 90% of games.

Not to mention another ps3 emulator has sucessfuly played a in game cutscene lf sillent hill 2 HD remake.

So while things are still coming along, nor to mention Wii u emulation slowly coming as well.

NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER STOP LEARNING. DONT LET THE PAST HURT YOU. YOU CAN DOOOOO IT

Also other emulators are doing well I general we got psp emulators ds and gba. I doubt powerful hardware is the issue here. I think its just debugging and coding by hand is the isue when it comes to these emulators.

well, PS2 actually emulates really well, but its very hitchy, certainly on bigger titles like GTA vice city stories.

theres a slight difference in how pcsx2 handles disk reading and how the original PS2 did it, that causes lotsa lags to happen. running from an iso defenately helps, and makes it actually run better than the original PS2...

as for ps1 emulation: currently i only have two machines that run epsxe: my very last-gen laptop, and my raspberry pi.

did you just... mention gba in powerful hardware?

my alcatel los angeles emulates gba...

You can emulate PS2 at any resolution on an AMD Phenom II at full frame rate... so why are saying it so intensive? PCSX2 is no longer limited to 2 threads.

why can consoles power these games effortlessly but when you emulate games it puts nice pc's to their knees

PCSX2 is pretty good in software mode. Hardware mode is where compatibility hurts.

But Hardware mode is also where you offload a lot of work onto your GPU.  Software mode is where performance hurts.

I run it almost everything in LLE perfectly fine in PCSX2.

I cant emulate MGS3 period last I checked you get about 4 fps on the press start screen, and ZOE2 I need speedhacks and even then it doesnt stay pegged. ive yet to find a ps2 game I can keep at 100% on my system, esp without speedhacks

I mean i can be blind at times, and i see you have an eye patch on Snakes face, but MGS2 is in there, Shadow of the Collossus, Onimusha, Gran Turismo 4... all of which are not easy games to emulate, yet he got them running at solid 60FPS.

WEll that video of MGS2 is on his ps2 console im 99% sure it was his proof he owned the system and wasnt pirating/illegally obtaining BIOS files.

And I just see pictures of game boxes, I dont see where MGS2/ Shadow of the Colossus, Onimusha or gt4 are actually running on the emulator.

Well i can tell you right now I got ZOE2 running and while its usually at 60 I am getting the occational dip down into the 40s its something I get for a second or 2 so I cant screen capture it but it happens and thats with low level speed hacks runing at...render resolution would be about 3000X2700

I might download PCSX2 myself and see if the phenom can handle it, as i have the same CPU as him, but a faster GPU.. much much faster GPU...

Just ran Shadow of the Colossus and it wasnt pretty. I had to shut it down immediately my whole system slowed to a crawl

Edit - 3 Times native res seems to be as far as I can push it and keep it at 60 and even then a hit 54 fps

why can consoles power these games effortlessly but when you emulate games it puts nice pc's to their knees

because the consoles the games are made for run the game's code natively, on pc you need to "emulate" the hardware the games are designed for, which takes a massive amount of overhead.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emulator this should be an interesting read.
