Choosing a 980......

masked106

Looking for the Best 980 for the price.

Taking into account:

1. Cooling potential

2. Power Consumption. (Some use more than others?)

3. Overclocking Capability.

4. Customer Support (bear in mind I am living in New Zealand)

5. and maybe Aesthetics but that's not absolutely necessary.

Before anybody posts anything, I've been looking at the Fury. and would rather save the money and OC the 980. if I get like 2-3 fps less then I have saved myself $150 since the lowest price of a Fury is $1000.

which would go towards games and the like. plus I get myself a nice Keyboard and a nice mouse.

will only play on 1080p.

I have two Gigabyte G1 Gaming GeForce GTX 980s in my build, or as I like to call them, the GGGGG980s. :P

But I don't recommend the Windforce or G1 gaming cards from Gigabyte if you care about noise, cause those cards will get loud. The fans spin at up to 4200rpm.

I would rather get a EVGA card with a ACX 2.0 cooler. The fans are better which makes it much quieter. Cooling performance is also great.

I hope you mean a 980ti? If yes, then I'd go with a Windforce card. Dat best overclocks like MAAAAAD. Just make sure the Hobbits deliver on time xD

I mean 980. Not ti

Unless you super care about nvidia features and such I would recommend the 390x that performs just below to equally to the 980 in most games.

I recently bought the Asus 980 Strix OC edition and based on my experience with it thus far, it gets my recommendation. Ridiculously quiet and very fast. No coil whine at all. Out of the box it boosts itself to 1304 steady and rarely runs warmer than the mid 60's. I was able to OC it to about 1550mhz on the core and 8004mhz on the memory (that's +1ghz over stock!) and this is without adding any voltage. I'm confident it would crack 1600 on the core by backing off on the memory and adding voltage. ;)

Build quality is top-notch and the whole card is just really well designed. The cooler, mid-plate and support brackets built in are really solid so there's no card droop/sag when installed on a vertical motherboard, what so ever.

Most of the cards on the list are probably just as good in many ways. I just REALLY like this Strix and believe it to be one of the best. ;)
