In what ways do you miss old tech?

Cory_plays_games

1. When mechanical keyboards weren't as expensive as they are today.

2. Not having Windows harass me on my other rig to upgrade to Windows 10 on it as I want it to stay on 7.

3. XP and older startup sounds.

4. Going through my drawer of games on discs to see which one I wanted to play (Was more interesting I guess)

5. Didn't have to spend most of the Windows setup disabling settings involving privacy things then continuing once Windows is completely installed.

Mech kbs were cheaper? Why did they go up in price? I would expect manufacturing expenses would be lower nowadays

They used to be around $50 and were mainstream. I assume once chicklet and membrane became a thing and were cheaper people started moving towards those instead of buying mechanical kbs. Also having thems sit for awhile you need to find some way to make money and pay for storage, that's also why computer chairs are expensive most of the time. It isn't cheap to let something sit around in storage.

I miss being blown away by the graphics of a new generation console. I still remember being in awe the first time I played PS2 after we upgraded from our N64. Was blown away. Now everything is just an incremental upgrade it seems. Plus I got into high end PCs, so consoles have always seemed unimpressive since then.

I miss the days when a desktop pc was all you had so you didn't have to start cussing over transferring files from smartphones, to tablets, to a PC

Got an Android, never going back to apple again (notice I spelled apple with a lowercase and Android with an uppercase)

I don't think there's any tech I miss, floppy disks were amusing to mess with but don't miss them, I suppose the only thing I can think of is getting boxed copies of games with a manual that you could read.

I miss being able to play almost some of my pre-2003 games on Windows XP with no problems. A lot of them have been broken since Vista came out and would need an old PC to play them again.

I miss

  • When 128mb megabyte video ram was amazing
  • When IBM still made consumer products
  • When the hard drives were very, very loud
  • When the internet hype came

Wait...that wasn't so long ago?

Actual fucking error codes. Now it's 'oops, there's an error' or 'something happened'. How am I supposed to fix it if I don't know what's wrong?

For real, my laptop keeps having problems and I can't figure it out cause its always like "oops something happened."

I miss the sound 56 Kb modems made when conecting. And how games seemed to suck me in... And when I had my first computer with a dedicated graphics card so I could play unreal and quake using GPU instead of CPU... Now that was a difference. I miss when I could use a cheatcode on a singleplayer game to troll the hell out of it instead of having to do a microtransaction. I miss the golden age of graphical adventures...

I miss the days that when you get a game you know it would work and not be broken. I also miss the days where there are a lot of RTS games that come out.

When HL2 came out and I was blown away by its graphics, my friend's computer couldn't play it at its highest settings at 1280x1024 lol.

I miss my XBOX original, it was a great console. Played so many hours of Halo 1 & 2.

I still have my old original xbox, it still works if I plug all the wires, but somehow I lost its case and everything is just all over the place lol.

The stars died for you to be here today.
