Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

OnHub

Well at first I thought this would be a hard choice, but after thinking about it for a minute I easily decided a Google/Asus OnHub Router would be almost a universal non techie gift. I would give this gift to my sister Shawna because she lives where she does not have good cell service, so they use the WiFi calling on there smart phones. The only problem with that is that they are using the router that comes from there ISP and it is not a very good one. An OnHub is the best choice for them.

Well I would give a 5.1 sound bar from visio to my mother http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-SB3851-C0-Wireless-Subwoofer-Satellite/dp/B00SMBGGV6/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1449793004&sr=1-3&keywords=5.1+sound+bar so that during the holidays after Christmas dinner at her house we could all relax and enjoy a nice movie or even some nice musical ambience during dinner and when everyone was gone she could still manage to use without anyone's assistance.

Btw great giveaway idea and good luck to everyone and enjoy the holidays.

Hi Linus, I've been watching your videos for a long time and am a huge fan of yours.

My mom refuses to upgrade from our ancient computer, maybe for sentimental reasons (not that we have the money to). I've tried my best to maintain it over the years, but now I think that the thing holding it back the most is its 2.5'' HDD. It's fairly slow, and still runs Windows XP, but that's what we have to use. Therefore, I'd like to respectfully ask for a Samsung SSD so that she can keep using it as she needs. She does all of her business and taxes on it, so I think this would really help our family too.

This is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-512GB-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-7KE512BW/dp/B00LF10KTO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449735574&sr=8-1&keywords=ssd+850+evo+pro

If you want though, you can go with the 256GB version instead and use the remaining money to make more videos. We don't need 512GB, but since it'll be the first one we've ever had, I thought that going big would be nice.

Thank you very much. If I'm not chosen, then I'd like to offer my congratulations to the other winners.

I want to gift my mom this receiver. It has a usb port for iPods and an audio jack as well. The remote is easy to learn and I know enough to be able to set it up for her. Her father passed away recently and he loved music, just like my mom, and he had a nice 5.1 surround sound speaker setup but the receiver was broken. If she got this it would make her so happy to be able to enjoy music with ease. Thanks, even if I don't win, it's great that your doing this.

I need a couple things for my sister.  She recently got a laptop for $300 and it is really slow.

I would like to get her

1. laptop ram upgrade kit. (I know its only 4 gb but her laptop only has 2 and she needs 4 for work.)  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233241

2.  Sata to usb enclosure  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182367&cm_re=sata_to_usb_enclosure-_-17-182-367-_-Product

3.  SSD to go with the enclosure  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820173071

I am hoping the smaller cost of everything will help me win.  Obviously I would help install everything since she doesnt know how, but that will be easy.

The final price of everything is $82.97 without shipping.

I would buy my mom this camera because she only knows how to use her crappy phone camera and pictures are most of the time quite a bit blurry even when the shot is focused. I suggested a cheaper DSLR but she said it would be too difficult to use and too bulky so I found this guy. Perfect for her to carry around in her bag and no longer have blurry pictures.

Thanks Linus and group for making great vids all the time

I wasted so much time and money creating a network for my home with 30TB of memeory for us to access, I am still the the only one of 6 who uses it. Maybe a simple external HDD drobo bay would work better.

I'd honestly love to get my younger sister a MIDI Keyboard because she has a big passion for songwriting and playing the piano, but since she is a non-techie (and partly due to her age and exposure), I think she has spent her whole life believing the only way to record music professionally is to go to a recording studio and do it there. Little does she know that all of this is very possible at home using the computer we already have. A MIDI Keyboard would really help her pursue her passion easily from home and allow her to make her own music.

I think this model would be more than sufficient:

My dad is a huge music fan but unfortunately he is still using a Bluetooth speaker to listen to all of his music and movies. He doesn't like headphones like me so I'd figure to wish for  speakers. Particularly, Harman Kardon Soundsticks III. My dad's old dell speakers finally gave out completely and he really could use a new set of desktop speakers. Thank you for the opportunity Linus, good luck to everyone and Merry Christmas

^_^

if I were to buy text for non-techie it would be the obvious bye of a laptop, but i would not just bye a new laptop i would buy a used or refurbished pc and spruce it up a little with parts i have lying about or if the price is real good i would many buy a little something extra. The person I would be buying this for would be my mother  who's best piece of tech is an old S3, the pc i would get would be something like this (so not necessarily this) http://www.amazon.com/Latitude-Laptop-15-6-Inch-HardDrive-Windows/dp/B00HZX3GC4/ref=sr_1_41?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449797331&sr=1-41&keywords=laptop&refinements=p_36%3A-30000%2Cp_n_feature_four_browse-bin%3A2289792011

I would love to be able to give my brother a PS4 for the Holidays!  He loves his PS3 and now with the holiday price drop it is eligible for this giveaway in conjunction with the game he has been mentioning in a bundle.  An added bonus is we no longer have a dvd or blu ray player that functions so this would just be perfect, thank you, cheers!                                                                                                                    Link: PS4 Star Wars Bundle
