DP 1.2 or hdmi 1.4 for 2560x1440

Hey everyone,

I'm sorry if this question got asked before, but the few threads I visited did not quite answer my question.

So here is the setup: I'm planning on connecting an Intel® NUC Kit NUC5i7RYH to an Asus VX24AH.

I need a video (2560x1440 @ 60hz) and an audio connection (I know the builtin speakers are probably terrible, but it's an office pc).

The Intel NUC has a mini DP1.2 and a mini HDMI 1.4 and the monitor can only use fullsized HDMI as an input.

So can I use just any mini HDMI to HDMI cable or do I need to look out for something special?

I was planning on buying this: Mini HDMI to HDMI 1.4 Cable

Thanks for your help! I'm really confused by those cable standarts right now...

the ideal solution would be to use displayport for everything , especially at 1440p and higher , but since your monitor can only take hdmi ,just get a mini hdmi to hdmi adapter ( or just wait for dp to hdmi 2.0 adapters to come out )

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

from experience, the nuc side isnt the problem.

you're talking to a person that has a stack of paper dedicated to jamming between connectors to keep them in his monitors.

Displayport is the King of monitor connectors. It has higher bandwidth, enough connections as to be able to emulate any other video connector (even VGA!) and can drive higher resolution monitors.

For 1440p, however, you only need general HDMI or Dual-link DVI.

you can buy a mini display to hdmi as well

doesn't really matter cause the bottleneck would be the hdmi in both cases

Yeah I knew that before, thats why I use DP for my other monitor which actually has a displayport Input. But thanks anyway ;)

Mini DisplayPort has no locking mechanism.

For the original question, it doesn't matter, either way it's no different than a regular HDMI to HDMI connection. Both options will work and you don't gain any special advantage by using the DisplayPort as your source.
